Moss and Welker are not the problem.
Great talent is never a problem.
It is the crappy coordinating and play calling that is the problem.
Moss and Welker make it easy for a lazy/dumb coordinator to keep a job much longer than he should keep it.
Claussen screams bust.
His very top ceiling is to be the next Cutler.
More likely he won't do squat and be the next Alex Smith.
I saw several ND games this year and he has zero ability to win a game or to be clutch.
If a poster like "DeusIrae" is considered an "All Pro" poster, what does that say about this forum?
From what I can tell, this poster acts hostile and antagonistic to any individuals who disagree with him/her.
Perhaps PatriotsPlanet is a better place to find intelligent football discussion.
Even in the thread below started by the forum creator, the vast majority say it is coaching-related. The 2nd most cited reason, voted by the members here, is putting blame on the offense, not the defense...
Why do you keep throwing the defense under the bus, when the offense is averaging barely over 3 points in the 2nd half of the 5 losses.
You keep assuming the offense is the reason for the wins, but it is just as much if not more responsible for its losses this year.
In a hypothetical world, what would happen on a team that was extremely talented across all football units but had two coordinators with zero NFL experience before joining the team?
One might say that by sheer virtue of its talent, the offense and defense would be in the top portion of the...
Looking at both units in context, both are top 5 in terms of points scored or points against. Yet both are horrible in the red zone. This suggests coordinator problems on both sides of the ball, and that the talent is actually very good.
The fact that Ben Watson or Adalius Thomas aren't productive this year doesn't mean Belichick is an idiot. It means that the coordinators on both sides of the ball behave as if they had no NFL experience before joining this team... which is actually true.
Going into the Patriots game the Dolphins were giving up 25 points per game.
The explosive Patriots offense scored 0 points in the last 27 minutes, for a total of 22 points against this Dolphins team.
It makes some sense for Weiss to go to Chicago, but why not come back to New England? Belichick is probably retiring after at most 3 years, Weiss could take over after him.
The offensive stats are misleading. Even now this offense is top-5 in the league in average points per game. It is misleading.
Dig a little deeper and find that this team averages 3.5 points in the 2nd half of this team's 5 losses.
Exactly.
Giving the opponent 14 different...
The Patriots have played horrible Bucs and Titans defenses which have skewed their offensive stats. The Patriots were shut down by two rookie Colts corners in the 2nd half. The Patriots offense was shut down by a Saints defense missing 2 starting corners and with 1 starting safety who signed a...
Re: Deserate need for a legit 3rd option - stats prove it
Daniel Graham wasn't good at creating his own open-ness either, he caught balls based on well designed plays for him.
This offense doesn't even throw to the tight ends. They rank 30th in the league in tight end catches, because...
Graham and Fauria still combined for a half dozen to a dozen TD's every year, even though they helped pass block a lot too. They were actually part of the offensive play book.
The current tight ends are talented, but they are given no opportunity to catch balls in this offense.
I was...
Re: Deserate need for a legit 3rd option - stats prove it
If by 3rd option you mean involve the tight ends and running backs more, I am all for it.
If by 3rd option you mean try to force the spread offense when our personnel is better in a 2-TE formation, then I disagree.
All those stats...
Felger just said that the Patriots are 30th in the league in tight end receptions. This is not because of lack of TE talent.
Felger just called the Pats offense a run-n-shoot thing. Seems like he's been reading the forums.
