2012 Patriots Set TV Ratings Records

Patriots set TV ratings record in regular season | Boston Herald

"New England Patriots finished the 2012 regular season with a franchise-record average household television rating of 36.36 per game"

Not a football region. No.

The Patriots games are also big rating winners when on MNF or SNF, I read recently.

And while a certain local sports talk radio station continues to try to push the "other sport" whenever they can (even on their so called "Patriots Monday & Friday") their ratings continue to tumble.

Both stations talk close to the same amount of football and baseball. Where they used to diverge was basketball v. hockey.

Correct. And the other station from 2-6 treats the Pats like crap. Thanks anyway. If I have to listen to Vulgar and Spazz trash the Pats for 4 hours, I'll pass thanks. Ordway is an insufferable Dbag and Holley went from being great to a borderline apologist for Ordway. It's a great choice from 2-6 in the greatest sports town in America

And to think Vulgar and Spazz is also broadcasted on CSN NE as well. What a good waste of HD bandwidth. Thank the heavens for Patriots.com Radio.

Always wondered how some of this comes about

Quote:

David Hill, former chairman and CEO of Fox Sports Media Group, why ratings continue to increase and he’ll immediately answer with the “Katz Theory” — as in Howard Katz, the NFL’s senior vice president of broadcasting and media operations. For the past eight years, the former ABC Sports president has led a small team of NFL executives through strings of endless schedule possibilities to develop ones that work best, both on the field and for TV. Earlier this year, the group sifted through as many as 14,000 potential schedules in a quest for the perfect one, or as close to perfect as they could get.

Teams with the most “Monday Night Football” appearances and their average ratings from 2006-2011:

Saints: 11 appearances, 8.8 (average U.S. rating)
Ravens: 10 appearances, 7.9 rating
Broncos: 10 appearances, 7.5 rating
Packers: 10 appearances, 9.1 rating
Vikings: 10 appearances, 9.2 rating
Patriots: 10 appearances, 9.2 rating

Katz also fields requests from all 32 teams, who send along their wish list, with stadium availability and requests for specific start times. Team requests can be particularly detailed, as NFL coaches are known to prefer consistent game times, while ownership aims to balance national exposure with fan preferences. For example, Patriots owner Robert Kraft has said that he requested more 1 p.m. ET starts this season because his team has played so many prime-time games over the years, which can be an inconvenience to fans.

This is nice to hear. As a New Yorker I am curious to know if the Pats narrowed the gap on the Red Sox in popularity.

Despite the Pats run the past decade I have heard that it's still a Red Sox town with a Pats a distant 2nd.
