Do any of your loved ones root for the enemy ?
My Mom, Dad and Favorite Uncle are huge Jet's fans. I kinda feel bad for my Mom most of all, because at least my Dad and my favorite Uncle have been Jet's fans since 1965, and have experienced the great feeling of seeing their favorite team win the Super Bowl. My Mom didn't get into football until 1972, and became a huge Jet's fan because of Joe Namath (I guess she had a crush on him).
Now that my Mom is 72, I kinda feel bad that she may never have that feeling of having her team win it all. She is an amazing Mom, in that she roots for the Patriots in every game (except when they play the Jets), because she knows the Pats winning makes me happy. What a sacrifice, to root for her son's favorite team, even though they are HER team's mortal enemy. She even roots for them in the Super Bowl. Now that's a great Mom. I kinda feel bad, because I could never do what she does, it's just in my blood as a Patriot's fan to root against the Jets, even though I wanna see her happy just once. Now my Dad, he has no problem showing his hatred for the Patriots (especially Belichick), so I don't feel as bad for him, My Uncle, he's pretty classy, but will throw in his little digs against the Pats. It's a weird predicament to be in. Any of you guys or gals have loved ones who root for the enemies ? |
re: Do any of your loved ones root for the enemy ?
I grew up in Indiana when it had no NFL team, moved to Massachusetts not long after the Colts arrived from Baltimore, and became a Patriots fan of course.
Meaning, all of my Indiana relatives of course eventually jumped onto the Colts bandwagon. Since they have had plenty of success for a decade minus last year, there's no real sympathy. Somehow though, they just can never grasp that their entire organization has always been a bunch of whiny quitting cowardly tankers. I try to enlighten them, I really do! That's not like having Jets fans in the family though. I'd find a family Jets fan a 12-step program or something! |

I'm afraid you're going to have to sever all ties with your family. That is the only responsible course of action.

You may want to change the grammar of your thread title to "Do any of your loved ones..."

My brother in law is a pats fan marrying into a family of Jets (and Yankees) fans. He stayed there for Thanksgiving this year - was a lot of evil fun laughing and exchanging texts with him during the bum fumble game.
His fiance's brother suggested going to see a movie sometime before the second quarter was over :) |

Wife is a Broncos fan (because of Elway) and the rest of her family are Squeeler fans, they are from Pennsylvania. A common bind that ties my wife and I together, we both really hate the Squeelers!

Re: Do any of your loved ones root for the enemy ?
My father-in-law is a big 49ers fan and I was forced to go watch the Sunday Night game with him at his house. Of course all my in-laws had to be there too and after that horrible start, they all jumped on the 9er bandwagon and didn't stop giving me crap all game. And me being the respectful son-in-law that I am, I just sat there and let them talk hoping my Pats could pull off the comeback. Wait!... the thread title asks if any of "my loved ones" root for the enemy??... Oh no, they don't.
