Stoolers fans

Do they actually think they have a rivalry with the Pats? Don't you have to win a game once in a while to be a rival? For a team that has won 5 championships, they're a pretty insecure bunch. I can't wait for the annual Steelers beatdown this season. |

Anthony Smith...big long sigh... Most Steelers fans dislike the Pats because of the 2 AFC Title game losses. (One by Bledsoe, One by Brady). That sticks in our craw. But I did get over both those losses by winning # 5. So the other fans are just looking for a Legit Rival to yell about. The Browns and Bengals are both pretty Pathetic in our eyes, having Dominated them over the past few years. Beating the Browns 9 times in a row and eliminating the Bengals from the playoffs 2 times in the last 3 seasons. So Steelers fans want a Rival. Ravens were cool to hate for a while, that's some real rivalry there, but they are so down, its boring to hate them. We proved that last year on Monday night football. So the Pats are in line for us as a Rival simply because they are Legit. Jacksonville is there too, but we don't play them often enough. We got them 2 times last year and they won both, so this years game has high interest. But the Pats we seem to play every single year. Colts...we own...Cowboys come to our house and thats a fun Rivalry. But the Pats...at least the Pats give us a real legitimate team that we can root against as being the 3 time winner to our 1 win in this decade. So that's why the Pats are "hated" by the Steelers fans. At least...I think that's why. Who knows really. I know I have no jealousy, just a natural desire to beat one of the other great teams in the AFC. Each year, the pats are there, and we are there. Minus Ben's faceplant year. |

I was waiting for Dino to respond before I said anything - thanks for your comments Dino. I've felt for a while that Steeler fans seemed to be more obsessed with their hatred for the Pats than any other NFL team - perhaps more than even fans of the Colts or any team within the division. Those two AFCCG, when the Steelers (and fans) were extremely confident of a win, had to be very difficult to let go of - just as our loss to the Giants last year and the Colts two years ago were.
Other than the regular season win by the Steelers in 2004 which ended the streak - which the Pats avenged in the playoffs - the Pats have won every regular season and playoff game between the two teams since 2001. That many losses over that length of time has to be very frustrating, especially when the team and fans have not been able to get their revenge. For Pats fans who are also Red Sox fans, just think how frustrating it was and how much you hated the Yankees for the thirty years prior to 2004. Now add in the video taping controversy, fueled by comments by Hines Ward and Joey Porter, and the result is a very vocal group of Steelers fanatics that have convinced themselves that Pittsburgh would have two more championships if not for the Pats taping of opponents defensive signals. At this point no amount of logic or reasoning will be heard by those that are most vocal; the Patriots are going to be hated by these people for a long, long time. To them, the Patriots are a burglar that broke into their home and stole the family heirlooms. Embrace the hate, it's here to stay. |
Re: Stoolers fans
I get why some very vocal fans of the Steelers "hate" the Pats. Its no different then when they hated the Broncos in the 80s or the Bills in the 90s. Or even the Raiders in the 70s. Pats are just next in the line to be another great team in the AFC. We are always there in the mix. Every Decade. When we wen't busy losing to Marino in the 80s, it was losing to Elway. When Jim Kelly wasn't beating us in the 90s, our QB was doing a good enough job of losing games himself. Neil O. Bubby B. Mike T. Kordell S.
That's what I tell my fellow Steelers fans. Also, the series record is Steelers 12, Pats 7. That means, at one point, prior to the Pats getting really good, it was what...11-3. Happy the Pats have closed the gap on that one. Positive attitude for my team. And a love of the Game. That's what I am, that's what I bring. |
