Lee Atwater's famous quote

Lee Atwater (of Willie Horton ad fame) is the forerunner to Rove in the Republican Party. Atwater is credited with the most effective implementation of the Republicans' southern strategy and getting Reagan elected. Since some here seem to be in denial about racism in the Republican Party, it is noteworthy that Atwater's most famous remarks are on tape, so there can be no dispute as to what he said.

Now, even Atwater understood that northern Republicans were different than southern ones, but the point is that racism was clearly part of the Republican strategy, and now they are stuck with an influential racist contingent that defies the changing demographics of the nation. In my view, the nation owe the likes of racists like Atwater, Reagan, and Rove a big hug -- they rid the Democratic party of most of its scum.

Exclusive: Lee Atwater

"You start out in 1954 by saying, 'N-, n-, n-.' By 1968 you can’t say 'n-'—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… 'We want to cut this,' is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than 'N-, n-.'”

Ah yes, poor Willie Horton. A man who stabbed a 17 year-old kid to death and stuffed him in a trash can. He was sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole so the fact that he was let out for the weekend and then raped and killed people can't be mentioned. People are opposed to that kind of thing because they are too racist to appreciate it.

There is a movement out there right now by many states to seperate themselves from this new screwy socialist left wing America, if it ever comes to be and I'm still alive I'm heading for one of those states like I was shot out of

Dear America
You have big trouble living in The White House.

LOL. Just gloss over the racism involved in all this, and complain about Republican gov Francis Sargent's furlough law, under which Horton got released during Dukakis term. Atwater, like many Republicans, was a racist, and played the race card with the Horton ad. The ad was designed to rally bigots, and thus emphasized Horton's race. It was part of the southern strategy, which of course is what you're trying hard not to talk about, lest you have to admit that racism is real in the Republican Party.

Also like to add that on his death bed atwater said he was remorseful for doing what he did. I doubt will see any of the new atwaters saying the same thing.

The preening self-righteousness of the left is getting a bit tiresome.

I'll admit that racism is real in the human race. I'll include Democrats in that group (this time). :p

Oh, and I'm not a Republican.
