Week 7: Pats win, but what about the offense?

Apparently one thread is not enough, even after a win.

Please post all of your insightful thoughts, viewpoints, breakdowns, dissertations, observations, scrutiny, rants, raves, and knee-jerk reactions about the OFFENSE right here.

Have at it ... just keep in mind that anything you say can and will be used against you at a later point in time.

Identity on O

Wonder when we will find it....IMO it needs to be found within 4-6 weeks Can't be like this going into playoffs...

McDaniels seems like he is shifting away from our 2TE formation of last year, which made us so dangerous and very hard to stop on offense. Granted AHern was injured but it just seems like he hasnt fully grasped how good our TE's are and that's a mistake.

Also the stupid amount of trick plays needs to stop immediately.

Like a damn broken record year after year, but not having any deep threats will ultimately kill this team.

This team has exactly one legit wideout. One. Branch is finished and doesn't count. Lloyd has been mediocre at best and certainly doesn't look poised to make any huge breakthroughs. This is one reason we're seeing an inordinate amount of trick plays imo.

They better hope Gronk/Hernandez both can get/stay healthy and the O can get it done without an outside threat like they did for most of last year.

I think Lloyd is a legit deep threat, but Brady seems to lack confidence in throwing deep. He's become so used to the short passing game that he seems reluctant to look downfield, even when receivers are open. He holds on to the ball too long, seems indecisive, and more often than not overthrows. To me, that seems like he has a lack of confidence in his arm strength and is overcompensating. Maybe his elbow is still hurting?

Im not arguing your point because it might be valid but it certainly doesnt help that Lloyd has dropped at least 4 easy receptions that would have been for huge gains.

For someone with brilliant hands Lloyd has dropped too many simple completions.

My 2 cents:

- The offense was supposed to run through Gronk/AH but both are less than 100%. AH due to his ankle (will improve weekly) and Gronk due to his hip/back (bye week should help).

- I really like Lloyd but other than him and he does not always make these catches Brady has NO ONE that he can launch a 30 yard pass to and just have the receiver make the play over a DB. He had it with Moss between 07-09 and we all saw how good Brady was when he had a player like that. I think Lloyd can still get there he had a couple of drops yesterday but my eye balls see talent.

- The weather will get colder so the running game needs to keep getting better and better. Ridley/Vereen/Woodhead/Bolden are a formidable foursome with each bringing something slightly different to the table.

- Lastly, the Pats O has been very good to great EXCEPT for when they have been in the red zone. That needs to improve and I believe once the TEs are healthier it will.

:D

Re: Week 7: Pats win, but what about the offense?

As much as I hate that primadonna Plaxico Burress, he would have been a great outside threat to use. He has the height (and hands) that Moss has, and would have given us the true deep threat we used to have with Moss. Lloyd might be good (and that’s arguable from what I’ve seen thus far), but from a mere physicality standpoint, he lacks the height to go up there and snatch the ball from the sky.

As for Brady hesitating…. I respectfully disagree. First of all, on ANY deep ball, you need to give your receiver enough time to get down the field. Secondly, I think Brady often times sees exactly what I described above – a mismatch between Lloyd and his covering CB. Lloyd had no chance in Seattle against those huge CBs.

I trust Brady, but unfortunately for him, Moss is gone, and he no longer has a running ‘tower’ on the outside.
