In LA, Copts and Muslims condemn hatred on both sides

US Muslims walk tightrope, denouncing both violence and anti-Islam film - U.S. News

Quote:

"People here understand that America and Americans shouldn’t be blamed for the actions of a few individuals who produced this hate film," said Hooper. "They should also understand that all Muslims shouldn’t be blamed for the acts of a few individuals that carried out these attacks as well."
Despite the hair-trigger Islamophobia that persists here in the U.S. and here on this board, most Muslims are not the ones spazzing out. Despite the anti-American outburst among extremists the last few days, most Americans aren't making softcore porn about their prophet.

How do buttholes get to be the "spokesmen" for every community? By the mechanics of hate. We look for the extreme on the other side, and condemn the comparative moderates who predominate everywhere along with the extremists. Extremists on both sides of any issue do this. It is how they keep the rest of us in the shadows, or fooled into thinking we're patriotic in proportion to the degree of bile we vent on bulletin boards about the actions of the few, which we generalize to all of "them."

Be led by a butthole, if that makes you feel like a man.

Or get real.

That's my .02.

Good job - PatsFanInVa.

Did you really have to go 3,000 miles to find a Muslim who condemned the
hatred?

California to California does not equal 3,000 miles..

Notice the lack of interest in a story where theres no rage or hate. A certain group can't vilify anyone so they have no comment.

Thanks for posting. We need more stories like this reported.

It wasn't yet 8AM when you responded with your own brand of vilification. Let some people wake up. I believe the lesson of this is that you should not blame certain groups for the actions of a few individuals. That's what I took from it. Did it have a different message for you?

Nah, it was right there on my computer via the magic of Al Gore's internet :)

But back on topic...

Let's think about why there "aren't more stories like this" (Both Joe, in a somewhat confrontational way, & WSB, in a non-combative way, alluded to this.)

Conflict is the essence of drama. Drama is what we sell as news. If it bleeds it leads, from Corialanus to the nightly news.

So yes, we need more stories like this, but we won't watch them. It's a human flaw. Sort of like on this board -- there were a lot of good responses to the original thread, and since we're all here to argue, my first response was to go to the first person who called me out.

So in part, this is just what we do. There are stories out there, but we're always looking for how to hate the "other team" more. In the Libyan case, 95% of the people of the country said they think all militant groups should be disarmed, and that was before the whole film spasm. The thing is that we have minds looking for the "other team," when the majority of people on the "other team" are on our freaking team, if we mean people who just want to live their lives and not constantly start stuff.

Sick and woolgathering today
