Anyone else notice Vinateri nailing a 53 yard FG vs PIT?
It was in the Colts preseason game against PIT....which widely regarded as one of the toughest stadiums to kick in because of the awful turf.
I never would have thought Adam would be able to keep playing 7 years after he left NE. At least, certainly not with the ability to nail 50+ yard field goals; a aspect of his game that tailed off towards the end of his career in NE. Apparently he nailed two 50+ yarders in 2011, too. And two in 2008, as well. Adam Vinatieri NFL Football Statistics - Pro-Football-Reference.com |

Saw it. I thought an announcer would hype it as they always say how difficult it is to kick there. The record must be about that distance. Then again, maybe I had it on mute.

Kickers tend to have more longevity than other positions but no matter how you slice it, a 53 yarder is impressive.

He certainly wasn't kicking long when he left us. I'm sure we weren't intending to pay him long term and are better off with Gost.
He took a gamble and it paid off, so good luck to him. You have to give it up after a while. |

Meh, not unheard of for a kicker to be on his game into his 40's. John Kasay is older than him and is coming off 147 points last year. David Akers is just 2 years younger and coming off 166. Pretty sure they were the 2 leading point scorers overall for kickers last year. And both made as many, if not more 50 yarders than AV. It's really not that shocking.
