That would be an interesting outcome... probably to avoid more exposure and litigation.
Not sure ever remember the current NFL ever backing down.. can we get our 1st round draft pick back??? |
Re: Did BountyGate just get more interesting? Report of a deal being offered
If this is what is being offered 5 days before this thing goes to court, I hope Vilma takes it all the way to Friday to see what Roger is willing to give up.

says a lot about the quality of "evidence" imo

If the NFL is willing to cut Vilma's suspension they damned well better give the Pats an extra 3rd round pick in the next draft.

none whatsoever. NFL was this to go away. |
Re: Did BountyGate just get more interesting? Report of a deal being offered
Wow. So either their "evidence" is as bad as it has looked or they just want this all to go away before week 1.

Re: Did BountyGate just get more interesting? Report of a deal being offered
The 'source' could be the side that wants the suspension reduced in an effort to get public support for the deal.
Defamation is not easy to prove in court, and as most players could fund civil suits it would appear to set bad precedent to cut what the NFL claims to be legitimate penalties to avoid private litigation. The NFL has to know this is not going away, so any deal like this would have to be considered a mea culpa that only fuels anger throughout the season for other punishments handed out if the decision was wrong. |
Re: Did BountyGate just get more interesting? Report of a deal being offered
The league has denied that any offer has been made. Could be one side or the other floating trial baloon to test the waters. The rationale for a settlement could be that Goodell always intended to reduce the suspensions on appeal provided the players admitted some culpability. But they have refused to and wouldn't even participate in their appeal.
The league is likely wisely concerned that a NO judge who seems to be looking past the law as it relates to collectively bargained agreements might decide to grant a tro and then we are into a starcaps like situation where the players played until the appeals court shot them down. |

Can the Patriots get their #1 Draft Pick back from Spygate?
If not, how about the video tapes? It would be interesting to scout the Jets from the good old days when they had a passing game. |
