FREE AGENT PRIORITIES
Add a safety and a corner (Molden?) or more for camp competition.

DRAFT PRIORITIES
Stop making believe with regard to finding a safety that will contribute in 2012. The choices are poor ones. They will be developmental. We can draft safeties in 2013 when the choices are better.

SOLUTION
Draft TWO corners in the rounds 2-4, one as a major addition and the other to beat out Molden or the other free agent acquired.

BOTTOM LINE
Our free agency priority is at safety.
Our draft priority is at corner.

As I stated in another thread, even IF there were better choices at safety, or IF the right player fell to them in the first/second round, he very well may not be able to contribute too much in 2012 anyway.

They didn't exactly start Meriweather or Chung right off the bat.

Meriweather started ZERO games in 2007. Chung started ONE in 2009.

I'm not sure why so many people think that we're going to take a safety that's going to step in immediately and contribute to an area of weakness.

It isn't going to happen. They would be slowly (very) be blended in throughout the season. That isn't exactly what we need right now.

That said, I could still see a draft pick spent on the position for the future, depending upon other variables.

I think we should take Harrison Smith in round 2, Casey Hayward in round 3, and Keith Tandy in round 4. Brandon Boykin could also be an option in the second if we need help at KR.

I don't think they'll use that many choices in the seconday at all.

Maybe 2 at the most, unless there's another late one from trading down into another round, which is probably likely.

Props to Wilson for making the conversion from CB.

Under the circumstances of that yr though, it wasn't much of a surprise.

There still hasn't been a rookie safety in the BB era that has come in and contributed as a starter right off the bat. The argument of Wilson would be the exact same as Moore doing it this yr, had we not come up 4 pts short.

The pattern is still that early round safeties aren't going to come in and line up in our back line of defense from day one, especially with this yr's crop..and there are many that think that's a high possibility.

mgteich is correct, the likelihood of a CB in the draft is probably more likely.

If a safety is chosen, and there very well may be one, he probably won't start opposite Chung from day one--the odds are greatly against it.

Moore's great claim to fame is breaking up a crucial pass after he was already beaten on it. Just bear that in mind, please, in any excitement about him.

Also, it's not inconceivable that Edelman wind up on the DB depth chart. I lean to thinking it's likely, now that Gonzalez is on board.
