Jackie MacMullan on the stupid "blame game" and a writer who doesn't get it
Jackie MacMullan seems to be Gronking it(*) lately.
2012 Super Bowl -- New England Patriots fans need to recognize the better team won - ESPN Boston And, as complete and utter proof that some folks just won't get it, I prevent this link that was in the media box above (warning: cr*p logic likely to raise one's boiling point ahead): Wes Welker's Super Bowl Drop a Sign Patriots Must Move on From Talented Receiver - New England Patriots - NESN.com (*)Thanks to redsubwhite for the suggestion. :D |
Re: Jackie MacMullan on the stupid "blame game" and a writer who doesn't get it
Last week she was labeled as someone who hates the Patriots on this board, but her columns prior to and now have been outstanding..

Very good article. Thanks for posting it.

Re: Jackie MacMullan on the stupid "blame game" and a writer who doesn't get it
the NESN article is stupid.
the only problem here is that welker is a little mis-cast as a #1 WR as there are limitations with that especially when the guy on the other side is pretty much the same type. coverages can account for that. |

Re: Jackie MacMullan on the stupid "blame game" and a writer who doesn't get it
MacMullen is labeled as someone who hates the Pats because for years was the designated Globe hit man who would write the negative article on the morning of a playoff game - see the inaccurate article about Asante Samuel's non-existant "Get Paid" tatoo.
Her ESPN Boston work has been better but there is a whole different tone on the site compared to the Globe/Boston.com coverage. |
Re: Jackie MacMullan on the stupid "blame game" and a writer who doesn't get it
There's no one to blame. Anything can happen in a short series (game) and it did. Sometimes you make the plays and other times you don't. This was a good season that would have been great with a Championship. I for one never figured we would ever get this fare with a defense that couldn't absolutely stop another team when needed. We over achieved and came within a whisker of winning it all again. Next year is the year I expect a Championship. This young team will be one more year mature and we will have closed up some holes on the roster. Be optimistic for what lies ahead of the Patriots and all of us fans.

Re: Jackie MacMullan on the stupid "blame game" and a writer who doesn't get it
Journalism isn't dead in sports, just a dying art that doesn't pay enough for anyone on the way up or intent on avoiding the way down at all cost, including to integrity. That the clown from Boston.com possesses a Masters in Journalism from BU, which is also Felger's ungergraduate alma mater, and don't even get me started on the Tufts track record, just underscores that. Jackie is unique, doesn't need the money and she is a woman and a wife and mother which not always but more often results in a more thoughtful perspective. She's not clawing to hang on or get ahead. She made her mark in a different era and she's largely sticking with it for the long haul.
Sadly there are all two few journalists of her ilk still thoughtfully plying their craft in this internet and ratings driven age. Tough to if you want to live a lifestyle remotely approaching that of your subject, and that is what drives most of them to jump the shark - a shot at becoming a celebrity mediot and leveling the playing field by any means available. It doesn't take talent per se to get ahead in the media game any more, the demographic you're pandering to is demanding ADHD/OCD high speed action and short attention span driven, so a finger on a fickle audiences pulse coupled with ruthless drive and ambition are the new age requisites. Thoughtful prose...no so much. |
Re: Jackie MacMullan on the stupid "blame game" and a writer who doesn't get it
Jackie MacMullan has always nailed it with respect to basketball.
Now she applies her exceptional skills to high-quality analysis of the Patriots as well. A treat to read. |
