The Patriots Offensive line is very overrated
I've been hearing that the Pats O line is by far the best in the league and that they are the best in the decade even (wow). Yet Week in week out I see Brady get hit as much as an average O line does.
Yes the Pats O line is one of the better ones, but I doubt it is as good as the Saints, Chargers, and Bengals where they literally go weeks without getting hit. Wanna know why Dalton has been so good? because he never gets hit, and when he does, he heels over like he did a few days ago against one of the top Defenses. Brady on the other hand has been hasn't been sacked as much as Dalton, Brees, or Ryan, but from my own eyes seeing Brady play, he extends the play because of his awareness in the pocket and can avoid sacks and make plays. Not saying the Pats o line is as bad as the Rams or Bears though... I'm just saying this because I'm tired of hearing that the Patriots O line is impenetrable, if it was, the Patriots would be 16-0 |

The line are doing their job, quarterbacks will get hit, even Andy Dalton! |

Especially considering when at times this year they were missing both tackles the left guard and more than 1 center. |

I have to say, the litany of evidence you've provided in support of your argument has really caused me to come around to your viewpoint. Well done, sir.

Re: The Patriots Offensive line is very overrated
Top ten this year, I think they were top 5 the previous two years...not sure on 2008, but 2007 they were definitely one of the best.
I don't know about the best for 10 years,. but they have definitely been one OF the best for the past 5 years now...so I don't get the purpose of this thread if I'm honest. We have definitely had one of the best offensive lines since 2007...and I would argue for a bit before then too although I can't be bothered to find the stats. I think a line that has boasted Mankins and Light on the left side for however long now warrants to be called one of the best...with Waters this year too that just adds to how good it is on paper. Personally think you're wrong. |
Re: The Patriots Offensive line is very overrated
QB Hits Allowed (NFL.com)
Saints - 51 Chargers - 56 Bengals - 60 Patriots - 71 So the Patriots line allowed on average 1.25 QB hits more per game than the Saints! And of the 3 teams you mentioned being great protectors, one is still in the playoffs, one are out and the other never made it! The Patriots are the #1 seed, so they aren't doing too bad! |
Re: The Patriots Offensive line is very overrated
Depends if you're looking at it in terms of pass-blocking or run-blocking...it isn't the best in the league in either case, but it's probably a top 5 line for Brady to throw from.

Re: The Patriots Offensive line is very overrated
Brian Waters has come to this team and has immediately become the best OL of the bunch...yes,better than Mankins and Light.
Mankins has not been at his best in 2011 but he is still a top 5 OG If I were Belichick I would be flipping a coin as to who should start at RT...Vollmer or Solder...Solder has been an outstanding rookie. As far as Light is concerned,I think he is having his best season ever....For the first time I can remember,Light has not been dominated from speed rushers off the edge - He has stood his ground better than I have ever seen him. |
Re: The Patriots Offensive line is very overrated
New England lost, at different times, its starting RT, starting RG, starting C, starting LG and #2C.
I think the line has played pretty well under such circumstances. |
