A timely thread on Offensive Coordination by AWTE on the Planet
Stumbled on this tonight. Well worth a read for those with the capacity to grasp it... Explains how the OC position really works (not to mention this offense) and relates to in game performance...including examples tied to this season.
Another absolute gem by All World TE :youtheman: WARNING: totally debunks the OC sucks and playcalling is the root of all failure arguments. :scream: Let's talk OC Bill O'Brien - Patriots Planet - New England Patriots Forums and Message Boards |

I wish that guy would go on a Boston radio show.

Re: A timely thread on Offensive Coordination by AWTE on the Planet
That was a really interesting post, and puts into words what I've thought many times when I hear people call out the playcaller.
I think it's easy to react with "bad call!" after a bad play when you're watching a team as offensively gifted as the Patriots, because you don't want to conclude that the players just didn't execute (or the defense made a good play), but that's often exactly what happened. There is a reason football is the ultimate team sport. Blaming one person for a failed play is never going to get you closer to understanding the game. |

I take issue with his lengthy battle with semantics re: the word "NEVER"... but well said nonetheless.

Re: A timely thread on Offensive Coordination by AWTE on the Planet
Really well done piece, and exemplifies the adage that there alway is more and it is never as simple as it seems to be....
The reality is that BOB has done an outstanding job for the NEP.. not sure that will translate into success at Penn State, but this offense has evolved under the very capable leadership provided by this brain trust.. But the folks on the radio have thier own ratings driven agenda, and for many this is the main source of information on this juggernaut. |
Re: A timely thread on Offensive Coordination by AWTE on the Planet
Who hates the toss? I've been calling for this ever since Maroney was here. I thought it would give him less indecision and dancing and our O-line is really athletic to do this.
Also, since we're doing 60/40 pass-run, it's quite good we're getting 4.0 yards/att ranked tied 21 with jags and others. Green bay is 26, Jets are 29 and Giants dead last with 3.5 yards/att, the last 2 teams "known" for running it more than passing. In fact, the Patriots have 438 run attempts and the Giants, 411. |
Re: A timely thread on Offensive Coordination by AWTE on the Planet
AWTE's game breakdown threads are the best breakdowns I've ever read anywhere- Unoriginal, Pats1, and BOR would sometimes do that around here but that stopped and I think that's just too bad. It was pure football without the nitpicking.
