Report: Jets reconsidering if Sanchez is team's answer at QB

NFL.com news: Jets reportedly unsure if franchise QB is on their roster

Quote:

A league source told ProFootballTalk.com on Sunday that the Jets are beginning to realize that Sanchez, whom the team drafted with its first-round pick in 2009, might not be their guy.
What did they trade to get him again?

Darn, darn darn! What rotten news!

I was hoping that the stupidity of Woody Johnson and the general dysfunction of the entire franchise would mean that it would take them at least another two or three years to figure this out. I mean, I thought they'd at least wait until the fans and media completely turned on him sometime next season.

Personally I was hoping it would take them longer to figure it out.

Damn that sucks. Maybe the Jets missing the playoffs wasn't the best thing here if another playoff appearance would've got the Jets to eventually give him a phat contract extension.

I'd take their 1st and 2nd for Mallet.

He'll get at least through next year.

I'm going to be the contrarian here and say that sanchez could probably be a fine NFL QB. That doesn't mean he's going to be, though.

The problem is, very few players are ready to step in and be the "franchise" that crappy teams that draft high are looking for. It used to be, they'd say it takes five years to develop a QB. Maybe they were right, in many cases.

Forget about the patriots, who keep picking up undrafted, or low drafted players and grooming them with almost no pressure for years (like Brady's ever giving thema chance to play when it counts, lol). If Hoyer is as good as he's looked in limited reps, that's a 6th, 7th and an UDFA who are as good or better as most 1st round picks. Look it up, if you don't believe me. Manning is the exception, and even Tom Terrific got to watch Bledsoe get kicked around most of a year and two games while he just sucked up the coaching and advice available (and i bet Drew was a good guy in that respect, though his ego probably told him no one would ever replace him).

Remember how people wondered if Aaron Rodgers would ever get a chance, and whether he was really any good? How did that work out? We're supposed to have the most QBs in the draft this year since McNabb's year, when there were five, including 1,2,3. Akili smith? Tim couch? Maybe the franchise savior model is wrong, not the available talent. No position gives the lie to the instant impact player than QB. It's a joke.

Once in a while, the son of a coach, or just an exceptionally poised and confident individual steps right in and never looks back, but the road is litteres with nervous wrecks who used to be gods on the college campus. Even Brady was still developing on a short leash in his second year when he threw a bunch of short safe darts where nobody but the receivers could catch them, leading a very conservative offense on the way to a title. He didn't start to develop his arm and stretch out and throw long until his third season.

I say the Jets should trade their whole draft for the next phenom, who will be the franchise and step right in and lead them to the promised land. then change running backs and cut receivers and replace them with new head cases every year and change coaches while you're at it. that's all you nee is one golden boy, not a stable coaching environment and patience. What fun is that?
