Summing up local Patriots coverage on a single 8"x11.5" sheet

Bruce Allen and the gang at bostonsportsmedia.com put together a hilarious flowchart that encapsulates how the local mediots decide what to write after a Pats game:

I think my favorite one is the one for SMY.

Reminds me of the decision making tree that some posters employ on this board and gives rise to the "yeah but" and "should've lot" crowd.

Classic Felger..

Didn't really find it all that funny. Are we just pretending that Boston media doesn't have any reasonable professionals or even homers on their sports coverage? Everybody hates the Patriots now? Sure, there are some guys out there that take the contrarian approach, but even Felger has been saying the Patriots will be in the SuperBowl for about 5 weeks now...I mean, this is kind of paranoid here.

Sports media in this town has very little resemblance to actual journalism. Its now more like entertainment. These media members now all have personalities and need to have a shtick in order to sell their brand. Its very little to do with love or hate of the Patriots. It has to do with marketing. Felger, for instance, makes all sorts of things, and not because he believes them but because he believes it will generate interest and discussion.

The above is a very accurate, although negatively slanted, depiction of a segment of the Boston media. Of course there is also another segment that is just the opposite, but that is a much smaller segment.

If you read the articles posted on the site, you'll see that this isn't directed at, say, Rapoport, Reiss, and the other beat writers; Allen says they generally do a good job of being fair (i.e., offering both praise and criticism where they're due). It's directed more at the columnists.

But even those guys aren't all clowns, spouting off unreasonable criticism after every game. Boston Sports Media has this "every media member in this town hates the Patriots" mentality that I don't really think is accurate. To be honest, I think the amount of blind homers we have here at the very least equals the number of negative contrarians.
