Sean. Charlie called the PSU/Miami Fiesta Bowl when PSU upset the
Canes. A game that still pisses Jimmy Johnson off. Good announcer.
Wish there were more like him. Condolonces to his family.

It's like I always tell my kids, if you get into television you're going to wind up dead.

Yup, Charlie Jones is a great blast from the past. I loved hearing him call football games, Jim McKay was truly MR Olympics, I'll never forget his Olympic broadcasts, especially in Munich 1972. Boy, I'm really dating myself, lol. Tim Russert was a huge loss, I'm not really into politics, but it seems like he was a fine person, who cared about this country, and never was a wuss during his interviews. It's always a shame to lose someone so young (He was only 58, Jones and McKay were in their 80's I believe).

I really liked the old AFL announcers. Charlie Jones, Al Derogatis, Curt Gowdy. Good memories of the early days. Charlie called a good game.

Jim McKay was the best. I'll always remember the 72 Olympics and the Wide World of Sports- Agony of Defeat...ouch:bricks:

Yes he did. And while his calls during a game's most important moments may not have been as dramatic-sounding as those of his contemporaries, neither did he give importance to anything that didn't deserve it. He called a fair, accurate game with enthusiasm and eloquence; nothing more was needed, and nothing less was required.

Gowdy was the best of all time IMO. He made the transition from the Red Sox to the AFL with ease.

Also, the Pats had a guy who did radio long before Santos and Gino who was really good, Bob Gallagher.
