Peter King doesn't think Specter push goes anywhere

For what his opinion is worth, and not a plugged nickel according to some people here, but anyway, King, this morning on ESPN radio, said he thinks an investigation into Spygate, similar to the one that was done about steroids in baseball, wouldn't garner much interest. He said the fact that college and even high school kids were using steroids because it looked like it was an OK thing to do since the big leaguers were doing it, made steroids a much more serious issue in the country. Hope King is right.

Here's a cause for real concern: a U.S. Senator is calling for an investigation...

...into the matters of a privately-owned league in which not a single law has been broken. That's freakin' scary.

At least the Mitchell investigation could hang its hat on some illegal behavior.

The fact that laws are broken with steroid distribution makes it a teeny bit different too.

You got that right. King has gleefully participated in Pats bashing all along, starting with his ridiculous "open letter" to BB advising him to grovel to Roger Godawful, and continuing to the other day when he was aghast that Pats fans are annoyed with him and others for calling the Pats "cheaters" ad nauseum.

I do, however, think the Specter thing is going nowhere. While his collegues have not come out and told him to shut up, they have also not stood beside him in support of an investigation. I think (hope) they are just letting a sick old guy talk. I think the fact that there was a tremendous backlash against Congress for the circus that was the Roger Clemens "hearing" has a lot to do with it. If that had gone well, there might be some support for again trying to distract the populace from our country's real problems with another meaningless sports dog and pony show. But since people figured out that's what it was the first time and it did not score well in the congressional popularity contest, they won't try it again. They'll just smile politely and say, "Go get em Arlen!" then go back to their fundraising. The fact that no laws were broken (just an administrative rule in a private organization that sets its own rules) also gives them no real grounds to do anything. I can't believe they'd be stupid enough to try to mess with the anti-trust rules over this.

We've just got to ride it out the best we can. Man is it hard.

This could hinge on the Nov elections. Right now Sen. Comcast would need to get permission from a committee chair by a democrat from VT. If the repukes win control of the senate, Sen Comcast could become the chair of the committee.

Yeah. But it is getting to the point that Specturd is starting to look bad. If he keeps it up much longer, everyone will see him for the loudmouth spoiled loser that he is...

:D

Specter doesn't have any support in Congress to move forward with a full fledge investigation. As long as Specter is the lone voice in Congress, there will be nowhere to go. Since there is a large segment of the country who think that Congress has no business getting involved, no politician other than Specter is going to touch this and risk alienating even a small segment of their constituency.
