I'm seeing a lot of Ty Warren in Quentin Groves

Played at a major NCAA D1 Program
Team Captain
High level of production (13.5 sacks 144 tackles for Ty, 26 sacks 120 tackles/75 solos for QG) -- sure tacklers
Stayed in school for senior year, thus a bit older than most of the players in the draft
Married in college, not running around getting into trouble.
Injury questions coming into the draft
Known for playing through said injuries
Coming into a position of need

Just something that occured to me while reading through the morning threads.

I can't disagree more. There body types are very different. Groves is more athletic and quick, Warren is big and strong. Groves is more of a pass-rusher, and Warren is more all-around. Dorsey reminds me a more of Warren, and Groves is almost Joey Porter like.

You kind of missed the point. I'm not talking about physical characteristics or their games. Obviously, one is a DT/DE who's 300 lbs, and the other one is a DE/OLB who goes about 250. Please give me more credit than that.

My fault. I read mainly the headline and skipped your post info.

If we stay at 7, I dont see Groves happening. If we move down, to any point below 10, Id say he comes into play. And that 2nd scenario seems fairly likely, so your guy Groves may be bring his wife, his kids, his leadership and pass rushing skills to NE. And I'd be pretty psyched to watch him go to work.

I know you've mis-read it and have said so, but even so, I don't see how Dorsey reminds you of Warren. The one player in the draft who does remind me of Ty is Phillip Merling.

I agree with Mr. Heat though.

Groves has the athletic ability of Gaines Adams. That kind of blinding quickness off the edge.

His past production was solid, but his motor was always a bit spotty. This season was just a lost year. Either Groves is the biggest sleeper in the draft, or we're drafting trouble in rd 1.

That Schefter quote gave me the chills. Maybe it's all a grand conspiracy so he drops to Miami at #32.

I completely agree with you. I like Groves not nearly enough as people on this board do. I just feel he is a boom or bust type. As for Merling reminding people of Warren. I don't see that at all. The reason he reminds me of Dorsey is that they have similar builds, but extremly strong, and Warren was a big pass rusher in college who transitioned to a good pas rusher in the NFL and great against the run. I think Dorsey will be the exact same way. Merling reminds me of Seymour mainly because of looks but also for their body builds.

I think Merling's stats are very very similar to Ty's - 146 tackles (99 solos), 12 sacks, four forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery, compared to 144 tackles, 13.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and two blocked kicks. And Merling is a junior too.

Stats don't dictate who a player is comparable too. Yes, Merling and Warren's numbers are simialr, but they don't remind me of each other at all.
