Anthony Gonzalez vs. Chad Jackson
While the Maroney vs. Addai game within the game has been analyzed and will continue to be for years to come, I am intrigued by the other young/rookie comparison at the WR position.
The Pats usually don't draft skill positions so high, but did with Maroney and Jackson. While Gonzalez has accomplished more in 1 season than the short/injury filled career of Jackson...who would you take RIGHT NOW heading into the future? |

Re: Anthony Gonzalez vs. Chad Jackson
At this point it is a nobrainer because Gonzalez has had opportunities and Jackson hasn't. (You can either blame that on Jackson or not but it adds up the same thing)
Personally, I think Jackson is a more talented player. But Jackson given 2 years of chances hasn't produced. Gonzalez is one, did produce, at least somewhat. (I would absolutely not consider Gonzalez' future any brighter today than I did the day he was drafted, he basically did what was expected of him) The real question here is whether Jackson has been unfortunate, or he lacks the makeup utiilize the skills he has at the NFL level. If Jackson realizes his potential, I would take him over Gonzalez in a heartbeat, but that is an enormous if. Its really a guy who is realible but not extremely talented vs a guy who is extremely talented but has been, to date, unreliable. If we have Moss, Welker, Gaffney/a player such as Booker brought in, plus whoever else is around at the end of the roster at that spot, I think I'd prefer Jackson to Gonzalez, because the upside is high, and we aren't that hampered by the downside. |
Re: Anthony Gonzalez vs. Chad Jackson
Gonzalez all the way. He's a perfect fit for NE and was hoping they ended up with him (before they acquired all the WRs of course).
CJax has shown nothing in two years (and I'm not a hater). Agreed, he has more potential, but one in the hand is worth more than two in the bush. |

I think Gonzalez at his best, may become a Wes Welker or Brandon Stokely...but I have seen Gonzalez get down the field a lot better than these other 2. Chad Jackson is a combine stud who will always mesmerize us with his 'potential.' Unless the cupboard goes bare, I don't see how he gets on the field as much as he needs to. Last year was his big chance... |
Re: Anthony Gonzalez vs. Chad Jackson
I would take Gonzalez, him with Moss and Welker would be sweet. That said, Jackson should be 100% physically and mentally heading into '08. It's not too late for him and I see no reason he couldn't do what Gaffney did last year with the upside of what Stallworth did in the first half of the season.

Re: Anthony Gonzalez vs. Chad Jackson
Santonio Holmes would be the other comparison since he was the only WR drafted before CJ in that draft. To this point it's obviously no contest with Holmes the clear winner.
Also I'm still waiting to see CJ's show some burst. |
