NBC Drops 'Under God' From Pledge

NBC Apologizes For Omitting 'Under God' From Pledge Of Allegiance (VIDEO)

NBC apologized after the network twice omitted the words "under God" from a clip of students reciting the Pledge of Allegiance as part of its coverage of the U.S. Open.

Regrettably, a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone and we’d like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it.”

If anyone doesn't think that that wasn't purposely done then they're crazy....and they had to know it would upset people.

I was just about to post this, beat me to it. I googled the pledge for some reason, and found the history of it, interesting.

The Pledge of Allegiance

The "under God" was added in 54 by Eisenhower because of the threat of Communism. Probably a thank is due to Joseph McCarthy who started his Communist threat in the early 50's. Then, we started putting our hands on our hearts instead of saluting the flag as it looked to much like Hitler. Oh yea, the pledge was written by a Socialist.
The editing is weird. Hey, let's take the Pledge of Allegiance, which children are reciting to honor an event held in our nation's capital, and cut out the part about "under God". Obviously, someone with power and an opinion.

Yes and this is all great material for debate on it's place in the peldge but NBC can't pretend they don't have an agenda with this.

If we collectively decided as a NATION to drop "Under God", it wouldn't bother me. However, when someone working for a network does it purposefully, it can only reflect arrogance that slaps Americans in the face.

If it was the right thing to do then they shouldn't apologize. If it was the wrong thing to do, then the person(s) who decided to do it should be fired, and that should be mentioned in the apology.

Then we can all move on from it.

It wasn't even an apology for editing it out, it was an apology to "those of you who were offended by it"(as if that were a small, unintended number).

They said what they meant and they meant what they said in the video

I'm an American. It doesn't slap me in the face at all. My face feels completely un-slapped. In fact, my face has never felt less slapped than it does today.

I don't need a "pledge" made up by fools who try to test my patriotism. The same fools have routinely used their pledge to elevate their own concept of patriotism and to make themselves appear more religious and therefor (oddly), more patriotic than the guy next to them or, more importantly, the guy they're running against. The pledge has been used by others who want to push their religulous agendas. Folks like Billy Graham, the Knights of Columbus, George Docherty and (much to my disappointment) Ike used the God clause to make America distinguishable from the CCCP and themselves less communist than their more athiestic, not-so-patriotic colleagues.

Then we should demand that NBC explain WHY they did it. My guess is that the number who were offended is far greater than those who weren't.

Why we're not one nation "under God." - By David Greenberg - Slate Magazine

I agree with that and would strongly object to it if I knew that I was passing some kind of a test. That said there is nothing wrong with freely reciting it either if you choose

If NBC is on a pledge crusade then they should come out and state their case the way you did.....not try and sneak it in there subliminally and then hide behind hollow apologies. Cowards
