OT: MikeAdams - What's the deal?

Alright, there's probably been threads on this in the past, but I just have to vent. This is Super Bowl week, and it's a season where I'm supremely confident that my favorite team is going to finish the season undefeated and vault itself into the discussion of 'greatest sports team ever'. So I'm trying to absorb as much about this week as humanly possible, reading articles, listening to the radio, and watching any and all sports programs that I can stomach (read: anything but ESPN).

So it makes me mad as hell that every night, on my drive home, my only option is that hack, Mike Adams. What's the deal with him? He's juvenile as all hell, he tries extremely hard to be 'hip' and funny, and yet he's just painful. As if that isn't enough, he seems to lack even a basic understanding of sports, has no value as an analyst and just sound stupid when talking about anything related to sports. And to top it all off, it seems like callers love him...maybe it's because they don't get screamed at like the other idiots on EEI, maybe it's because Adams does, in his defense, sound like a nice guy. But I just can't understand it and it makes me even more mad. And the idiot's getting mad about not getting sent to Arizona? Sorry buddy, but you're irrelevant, you suck as a radio personality, you're not funny, and you don't seem to know anything about sports. I'm surprised he even has a job, let alone an opportunity to turn that into a paid trip to the Super Bowl.

God damn it, I just want to hear about/talk about/listen to Patriots analysis.

Mike Adams is ONLY about the Sox!

You're better off listening to ESPN Radio if you want intelligent football discussion. Intelligent football discussion and WEEI is an oxymoron. I turned off EEI a long time ago. Sounds like it's time for you as well.

Exactly. I work until 8 PM and I can't get any radio reception so I listen to streaming audio. Luckily EEI streams but, tonight 5 minutes into his broadcast he was talking about MLB pitching. I laughed thinking even going into a SB with the local team he has to talk baseball. I then typed Command Q and quit out of the stream. I'd rather listen to nothing than blah blah baseball.

Well I love baseball...I just started commuting a few months ago so didn't have the 'pleasure' of listening to Adams during the Sox season. That said, he could be Peter Gammons, Theo Epstein and Bill James all wrapped into one when it comes to baseball and I still wouldn't be able to stand him, he's that annoying to me.

And I don't get ESPN radio, unfortunately. I guess it's back to the iPod...so disappointing.

You know what the best football sports talkshow I've heard is. WIP Philly on Sat mornings. 10-3. Ray Diddinger who wrote the book Friday Night Lights.
He's a knowledgeable football writer with no ax to grind about Pats. Just states his opinion. He admires what the Pats are doing. Laughs when Eagles talk about how close they are to a championship. Just points out differences between them and the Pats. Feels our season is the greatest single-season accomplishment any team has ever done. Doesn't think we are the greatest team ever. Have to factor in eras, strength of league, etc. But, you can tell it's just an opinion. Not some blowhard hater just hating on the PATS. Quite refreshing to listen too. Eagles fans are a bit off their rockers. But, he usually reels them in. They are frustrated by their ownerships lack of commitment monetarily to winning. A lot like Sox fans pre 04.

I stopped listening to WEEI at night because of Adams. He knows nothing about the Patriots or the NFL. Sarandis was much better.

Adams knows nothing about baseball either.

His analysis tends to be the Red Sox are going to win 120 games this year because the Yankees suck.

I could not agree more. He and Glen Macnow, Saturdays from 10-3, provide the best block of football talk (plus local Philly sports, incl. NHL) that I have ever heard, and it's not even close. I miss being able to listen to them during our time down here in Baltimore. If the 4-letter network would dump that retard Hoge, and replace him with the other guys from NFL Films - Greg Cosell and Didinger, plus Jaws - NFL Matchup would then become the best show of its genre in television history.

PF in PA: I haven't had the chance to call their show this season and ask Ray for his opinion on Cameragate. Does he think that what the Pats were caught doing was so egregious, and so uncommon, that a punishment of a 1st-round draft pick and $750K was not cruel and unusual? I am curious how he, as a football hisorian, views this particular wrinkle on "gamesmanship".

usually tv and radio sports shows are for beginners. I have a Sirius and NFL Network is pretty damn good. I usually work upwards of 80 hours a week and most is spent in my van so listening to football for those times usually makes me want to shoot my myself so I listen to other stuff most of the time but shows like the Afternoon Blitze is pretty good if you're in the mood
