Does anybody else think that Karen Guregian is underrated around here? I love what she brings to the table. She constantly does these great background stories on Patriot players. I especially love them when the news is slow, and I need a fix.

She doesn't try to be negative all the time. She doesn't try to stir up trouble just to have the masses read her articles. I like her writing style, and appreciate that the players give her access.

No, I'm not related to her, and don't know her. :) I just really think she doesn't get enough credit around here. I think she's great!

Yes, agreed - I like her reporting style quite a bit also. When I go to the Herald, if she has a column it's the first one I click on.

Absolutely agree.

Is she pro-Patriots all the time?
No.

Do I always agree with her viewpoints?
No, not at all.

But she does consistently deliver insightful, quality opinions and analysis.

I think she may be overlooked by some for a variety of reasons. First of all she writes for the Herald, and there is still a segment of Patriots fans that will not go there due to the Tomasse incident - plus the fact Borges writes there. Second, she is not constantly breaking news and information the way Rapoport does. And third, many people primarily follow Mike Reiss, some to the point of actually excluding other writers.

It seems as if there is a constant race between Reiss at espnBoston, Rapoport at the Herald and the Globe's Greg Bedard to be the first to post new information on twitter, and then the first to write three paragraphs about it on their blog. That's fine, but that doesn't mean that those people who write longer, more detailed columns should be ignored by sports fans in general or Patriots fans in particular. Writers like Guregian fall more into that latter group and are worth taking the time to read, in my opinion.

Agree with you and jmt57. I like that she doesn't play the silly Gotcha jounalism that many around here like. It seems like players trust her more than many of the others.

I agree there completely...she really seems to do her homework on her pieces...

Definitely under-rated, and a pleasure to read, especially in a town that breeds cynics and acerbic types, ala Mannix, McDonough, Borges, Felger, Tomase, et al...

Spot on. So much focus has been put on "breaking news" or "scoops." But rarely do those reporters have the ability to add proper context/insight into that news.

I think she's quite good, and I'd like to see more sports reporters do what she's doing.

Under-rated? No - I think she's exceptionally well respected by her fellow writers and by the players that she writes about in all sports. She's an excellent writer, finds fresh takes and gets to the heart of the matter.

If she has criticisms she makes them without being an a-hole like some other reporters who use sarcasm and exaggeration.

Under-appreciated by fans? Perhaps. You don't see too many threads like this - I've seen lots of people (appropriately) laud SMY, Reiss, and others - but less so with Guregian.

I definitely pay attention to her stories and perk up when she's on the radio... I almost always gain a new insight that I didn't previously have.

Seems like the women writers have "come a long way baby" in that they're judged on their writing and insight rather than being looked at as a "chick" who's also trying to cover sports.

Probably why shes not as popular as some others but I agree, I like her writing, hope she stays the way she is and doesnt turn into a Tomasse or Felger.
