Braindead republicans want more children and less assistance for them...

In a bill released Monday, Republicans proposed cutting $832 million - 11 percent from this year's budget for the Women, Infants and Children program, which provides food for low-income mothers and children.

Screw the old, screw the poor, screw the women, screw the children, screw the needy, save the fetus, save the rich, save the power.

Please, rational conservatives, take your party back.

I am ashamed to live in Virginia.

Please be advised that Eric Cantor may say he represents me but he does not.

These are the same folks who want to bring more unwanted children into a world that does not want to support them with the basic services they need.

Coincidentally T Sowell had an article on the same subject matter today. As usual he hits the nail on the head.

Dependency and Votes - Thomas Sowell - National Review Online

Quote:

The goal is not to keep the poor from starving but to create dependency — because dependency translates into votes for politicians who play Santa Claus.

We have all heard the old saying about how giving a man a fish feeds him for a day, while teaching him to fish feeds him for a lifetime. Independence makes for a healthier society, but dependency is what gets votes for politicians.

For politicians, giving a man a fish every day of his life is the way to keep getting his vote. “Entitlement” is just a fancy word for dependency.

I would also be surprised if the 'cut' wasn't actually a cut in a budgeted increase. I would rather see the poor in the middle class rather than be enslaved to generations of government dependency/poverty.

Yup cutting 11% from the WIC budget is definitely teaching a man to fish. Blind partisan support, it's hilarious.

R Paul your hero would eliminate the entire program. What is the spending now compared with say 2008?

Don't take everything you read at face value.

That quote is a heaping pile of crap.

By almost every measure (including, perhaps most importantly, the happiness of their citizens), welfare states are at the top of the list in terms of socioeconomic metrics. While this Ayn Rand-ian pablum sounds good in theory, the fact is that people LIKE the services government provides and the role it plays in administering a modern society.

From the AP

Quote:

Republicans who wrote the bill said the cuts in domestic food programs are taken from excess dollars in those accounts, and participants won't see a decrease in services.

Domestic nutrition programs are mined for dollars in tight budget times because they often have extra money sitting in their accounts. Money is allocated for the programs based on projections of need and food costs, and those needs are sometimes overestimated.
If you click the link, it also says that they have budgeted $71 Billion for food stamps. $71 billion. I'm just curious why we decided to give Pakistan more money recently. Hmm....oh well. Now, if we could slash 20% from the military budget, 90% from the department of education, ans 99.9% in foreign aid, we might be on to something.
