NFL Schedule has built-in lockout insurance into week 3

Didn't notice this, but the schedule maker for this season has set up the schedule so that if the strike goes thru September and then ends that only the bye weeks and Conference Championship/Super Bowl off week will not be a part of this season.

A season without a bye week is not in the best interest of the league IMO

I would have rather seen all the teams have a week off at one time and extend the SB a week later than to cut the bye weeks altogether.

All of this of course is under the assumption that the CBA will still be unresolved by September, which I do not believe will be the case.

The players should be able to stick together (for the most part) until they lose game checks, then they won't be able to hold up. If that's the case then the season won't start until October as they still have to have some semblance of free agency and a "training camp/pre-season" which would likely be only one game if it goes that far.

Nice to know the NFL itself has faith in the lockout being resolved before the season.

My thought as well. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the process. Idiots.

Another solution is skipping weeks 2 and 4. Each team is home once and away once and there are no division games in those two weeks.

Interesting how they put these little quirks into the schedule to shift things around if need be. I don't know whether to be encouraged that we have a higher likelihood of having 16 games even if the lockout stretches into September, or discouraged that they felt these little tricks are necessary in the first place.

There's gonna be a PR crapstorm if they miss those September 11 games though.

Wow.

That never occurred to me and you are absolutely right in thinking it's a really big deal. Regardless of which side people take in the argument, or none at all, the overwhelming sentiment is going to be universal disgust that they aren't playing the games.

I don't know that people will hold that against them but they would miss on out a great PR moment as they are a group that could truly honor the day. I think everyone here remembers the Andruzzi brothers on the field weeks after and they would be giving up those images
