NY Times Reviews Film of 2010 Pats

Posting this mostly to criticize it--

2010 Patriots: What the Film Revealed - NYTimes.com

The piece talks about "film analysis," but it's really a superficial take on the Pats anyone could have written in about 10 minutes without the benefit of film or anything else. But I read it, so what the hell.

Saying it took 10 minutes is being generous...that article is basically notes that everybody already knows.

Offense:Brady doing what he does/TE's schematic change.Danny Woodhead was good.
OLine was suspect in protection, good in run blocking

Defense:Wilfork,Mayo,McCourty=good.Lack of pass rush=bad.

Agree. Not bad. The sad thing is that this guy gets paid to write this. There are at least a dozen or so posters on here that can do a better job than this guy.

I agree that it seems to be all too brief for a 'film analysis'. Perhaps it's due to space limits, or targeted for more casual fans than those of us that find ourselves on team messageboards during the off-season.

One thing those in New York were surely unhappy to see was his comparison betwen Brady and Sanchez. He notes that the "criticism about Brady being rattled when he's hit is only remotely valid" and goes on to say Brady is a terrific pocket passer. He then compares Brady to Sanchez, noting that "when the pocket crumbles, Sanchez tucks the ball and scampers, making himself a non-threat to throw. Brady coolly slides around and remains ready to fire at any moment. That takes toughness."

Here are the links to his reviews on the other AFC East teams:

2010 Jets: What the Film Revealed - NYTimes.com
- Schottenheimer is a very good OC and will soon be a head coach; Nick Mangold is dominant, making their whole offensive line better - the best in the NFL; the Jets lack of a dominant pass rusher hurt them, with not enough game-changing plays on defense; the loss of Jim Leonhard really hurt; and Cromartie's coverage ability makes up for his lack of tackling skills.

2010 Bills: What the Film Revealed - NYTimes.com
- The Bills struggled because they don't have the personnel to play the 3-4. Donte Whitner is not as bad as he is being portrayed; Eric Wood solidifies the interior offensive line.

2010 Dolphins: What the Film Revealed - NYTimes.com
- Problems on offense had more to do with Dan Henning than Chad Henne; the defense was solid but not enough big plays; the offense needs a speedy playmaker more than RB Mark Ingram.

And his [McCourty's] ball skills, obviously, are top rate.
We weren't hearing that a year ago! :lol2:

That's an insult to the posters on here....I'd say there are at least 30 :D

I think his analysis is succint yet accurate. Obviously he didn't go into a lot of detail. But he was willing to criticize Jets players and put praise where it belonged (Brady's feel and pocket presence vs Sanchez tendency to tuck and run). That takes some courage for a New York writer to tell the truth at least. Course there are some posters here who could break it down into a lot more detail, but that was a very short piece, maybe he was only getting paid to fill X amount of words. Who knows.

That is an unfair comparison imo.He will never be a Tom Brady/Peyton Manning but with experience he will get those things down. I've found some respect for Sanchez honestly....he seems like a cool guy and playing in NY and being a young QB must be tough.

I hope he breaks his leg or something though.

It's not so much the issue of the length--although I'm sure they could have found a bit more space. It's that you'd expect SOME small nugget gleaned from watching film that we (and everyone else) knew just from watching the games on TV.
