Somehow I just think that if you run a non-profit charitable organization you ought to spend at least a comparable amount on charity as you do on one of your spokesperson's salary.

In 2009, Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol joined a teen pregnancy prevention nonprofit called the Candie’s Foundation. Today, the Associated Press reported that the Candie’s Foundation released its 2009 tax information, revealing that Bristol was paid a salary of $262,500.

But a closer examination of the tax form by ThinkProgress shows that the group disbursed only $35,000 in grants to actual teen pregnancy health and counseling clinics: $25,000 to the Mt. Sinai Adolescent Health Center and $10,000 to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.

Forgive me for saying so, (and I already know you won't) but Bristol's got to have one of the highest paid out-of-wedlock pregnancies on record.

Certainly seems like a good role-model to me - except I'm not sure the message being transmitted by a salary like this and her appearances on various reality shows and dance contests is the one we want transmitted.

This sounds too much like "get pregnant - get rich."

Kinda the same thing everyone condemned OctoMom for doing.

Only different, of course.

The difference being the amount of success.

From the sounds of it though, she was brought in to "raise awareness". Not sure if that means traveling around speaking or what, but I suspect that the compensation is for leveraging her celebrity.

The money appears to come from a company. I would be more disgusted if this were a foundation that was raising money from the public, but if this is how they want to spend their $ I guess that's their prerogative.

I can't quite tell where it comes from, exactly.

This is the box checked on their income tax form.

An organization that normally receives a substantial part of it's support from a governmental unit or from the general public

American Capitalism, the daughter of a VP candidate, gets knocked up, has her relationship played all over the press on both sides of the aisle.. and now gets 262K for doing something for little girls underwear..

The unintended consequence of a horny 16 year old, that is the american dream, but only a few know how to capitalize on it.
