Hr 1255

The bill states that if the Senate has not passed a budget bill for fiscal 2011 by April 6, “the provisions of H.R. 1, are hereby enacted into law.”

Bill Text - 112th Congress (2011-2012) - THOMAS (Library of Congress)

This is possibly the most unamerican, anti constitutional piece of crap I've ever seen. And I've seen John Yoo.

Do not pass the senate, do not get the president to sign it, Somehow John Boener is the commander in chief?

Like any other bill it can be vetoed... just more dancing by the House instead of dealing with real issues..

I wonder how Sean Duffy feels about the possibility of losing part of his paycheck?

It's kind of interesting to think about since The Tea Party congressmen and senators are a big part of the reason that a compromise cannot be reached regarding the budget.

It'll be even more interesting to see if people like Mr. Duffy suddenly start agreeing with the establishment Republicans when it comes time to vote on a compromise bill.

I don't like Boehner but he's not stupid.

He may not have checkmated The Tea Party but he's certainly trying to keep them in check.

Thanks for the post HD. I'm not sure of the legality of this type of bill, at first glance I'd say its dubious at best. On the other hand, wasn't HR1 a funding bill for the remainder of FY2011?

Without much knowledge on the matter I'm going to say my first impression is a big thumbs DOWN on this one. How can you do something like this? "If you don't get something done, this other bill becomes law." What??? Not a good precedent to be setting.

I do respect John Yoo though.

YouTube - Schoolhouse Rock- How a Bill Becomes a Law

Right around 2:00, Bill gets through the House, Stokes. Look at what happens next. Very important information for Boehner et al.

Christ on a crutch.

April 5: New House rule stipulates that bills must be made public 72 hours before a vote. Thus, a new continuing resolution or budget agreement would have to be unveiled by this date to avoid a government shutdown.
April 8: The latest continuing resolution on the 2011 budget expires.
April 15: Treasury predicts the federal government could hit the legal debt limit between this date and May 31.
April 18-May 1: The House and the Senate will be in recess for Easter.
