Racism isn't something to be ashamed of...

Yeah, I know the title sounds shameful, doesn't it?

But think about it? If you or I are not racist, what do we have to be ashamed of? If we live our lives treating people as equals, isn't that the best each of us can do?

After all, nothing you or anyone else can do can shame me and vice-versa. Maybe there are some/many who believe that "Collectively", we should feel shame, but I don't buy that.

I believe we should all accept that racism exists not only in our country, but across the globe. It's not an American trait, it's a human trait... and also a sad human trait.

I was sitting in Buffalo International Airport yesterday afternoon and having lunch in one their restaurants. Sitting at a table beside me was a group of 3 very young adults (around 20 yrs old). Two caucasian young men and an African-American young lady. No big deal, right? And in our eyes today, it isn't a big deal. But I'm 52 years old and remember the day when I never, ever saw this.

I almost went over to them to tell them how great their generation is doing compared to their parents and that I'm proud of what their generation has accomplished. But then I realized, to them, it's nothing (as it should be) and to say that would only show that I noticed...and damn, they might even call me out on that...so I just acknowledged their progress silently.

Good for them...good for all of us!

I choose to be proud of where we are today, not shameful of our past.

I know, I know...but I'm not saying it's something anyone should be proud of either Flex.

I do that I'm comfortable with myself regarding my views on race.

You should know that since you're a free market guy, you're one step away from being a racist to some people anyway! ;)

Very funny Army! I must add that I'm not total "Free market" guy either. I'm fine with gov't regulation in some areas... Greed should be regulated to some extent.

I agree, the less preoccupied they are with race, the better off they will be. It's caused nothing but problems.
