Tyler Sash
depending what the Patriots do in the first, maybe this guy is a sleeper pick for the Patriots in the second or third. Meriweather is likely to either be released after his latest incident or if he doesn't get released or traded he's likely to walk as a free agent at the end of the year. They don't really have any other safety to play across from Chung if Meriweather walks. If they take a guard in the first like Pouncey and take either Jordan or Watt at 17, then in the 2nd they could take Brooks Reed at 33 and maybe Sash at 60.

Re: Tyler Sash
What makes you so sure that Meriweather is likely to be released? Unless more information surfaces, he did absolutely nothing wrong at this point. You're going to cut your starting safety because he has a crazy family? The team also showed their confidence in Page by placing a second round tender on him. Getting rid of Meriweather for Tyler Sash makes this team significantly worse. Picking up Sash for the future is an option, but my guess is he would have a Taylor Price like year.

Re: Tyler Sash
Sash is exactly the type of guy the patriots would draft in the 2nd. They could always use insurance at safety. They always pick players in the draft for depth. They picked Ron Brace as possible Wilfork insurance and depth along the line. Picking Vollmer when Light and Kazcher were both playing well also looked strange at the time but has paid off big time. They picked MCcourty in the first after they drafted Butler the year before and the secondary could've been adressed later. This year the McCourty pick looked great but who could've actually predicted that Butler would be horrible after a great rookie year and Bodden would be put on IR. So the Patriots pick players for both insurance and depth and I think Sash would be a great second round pick, if they adress some of their other needs with the first 3 picks. Tyler Sash is a ballhawking, team first safety and would be a safe and solid pick for the Patriots.

Re: Tyler Sash
I'm a big fan of Sash - but he is really more of a SS for the Patriots. He doesn't excel in coverage, but stuffs the run very effectively.
He also just knows how to make plays - as evidenced by his ridiculous amount of turnovers in his short career. I'd wait and grab a guy like Jaiquawn Jarrett from Temple if you want "insurance" for Meriweather. |
Re: Tyler Sash
I like Sash, but he's not the best replacement for Meriweather -- if BB is preparing for his departure after this season. I'd look at the CB/S crop first... specifically someone with solid coverage/ball skills. A fundamentally sound tackler who excels vs the pass -- rather than vs the run.
