Mubarak rumored to be resigning TODAY

The defense minister says he will not, FOX, NBC and CNN report he will.

If he does, the Egyptian people will have accomplished in 2 weeks, what the most powerful military on Earth could not in over 6 years. The reason is simple...

Revolution is organic.

How do you figure? An Islamic government is the result in both places.

Well done!

Could have this been avoided???

The reality is for some reason we have always tended to back less than honest regimes in the middle east, which does not contribute to our popularity..

Egypt is an Islamic nation (80-90%).....why would they not elect an Islamic government?

If this happens, the people will have ousted a dictator who was 'elected' just as Hussein was 'elected' in Iraq, and Ahmadinejad was 'elected' in Iran.

Taking the wait-and-see approach here. I'm half expecting there to be some sort of change to the facade without meaningful change. Wait-and-see....

CAIRO—Egypt's military announced on national television it had stepped in to secure the country and promised protesters calling for President Hosni Mubarak's ouster that all their demands would soon be met. Mubarak planned a speech to the nation Thursday night, raising expectations he would step down or transfer his powers.

Islam is a religion. I believe in the separation of church and state. As such, I am opposed to the idea of an Islamic government.

Because it fails to take into account the rights of those in the country who are not Muslim. Freedom of conscience is one of the fundamental rights embodied in the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights. A right that is not recognized by Islamic governments (see: apostasy).

Indeed - and they have apparently taken root where a brain usually grows effectively cutting off the flow of all intelligence.

Whatever game he's playing becomes more dangerous by the minute.

I wonder if it was simply media hype which had him resigning or if he instigated the rumor himself for some twisted reason that only he understands.

Perhaps they could have him certified legally insane and get rid of him that way?
