Dominance of Pats, Colts & Steelers Getting Comic

Peter King made the observation this morning that in the last 10 years, the NFC has been represented by a different team every year. In contrast, outside of the 2002 appearance by the Raiders, the Pats, Colts, and Steelers have won the AFC every year the past decade. That's amazing.

Just something to think about...for all the braying & yapping of teams like the Jets and Chargers, not only haven't they won a championship, they haven't even had the chance to play for one. Heh.

They have a bunch of the AFCC game losses too. It's not as extreme a list (Jets have the last 2, and I'm pretty sure Chargers & Titans are represented as well.) But yeah, those three franchises have been the class of the AFC for a long time.

While we as fans may not care for those two other teams, the primary reason is simply that they have been the biggest obstacle to the success of the Patriots - and bragging rights that fans, though they may not admit it, enjoy having.

It starts with stable ownership that hires capable management, and then lets them run football operations while they tend to the business side. The three teams also seem to have a similar concept of balancing long term success with short term goals; placing values on players relative to the salary cap and not letting emotions dictate business decisions; and fiscal responsibility even if it does at times cause unpopular player personnel decisions.

So much for parity in the AFC. This is even more lopsided than SF/Dallas/GB in the NFC from '88-'97.

13 appearances out of 20 chances. I might have guessed even 1 more. Pretty awesome even so.

And by the way, I think those three teams also had an incredible run for splitting up best regular season record honors, as well as setting a variety of winning-streak records.

Thats why, even though I am not a fan, I can atleast respect what Pitt has done, and the organization deserves to go to the superbowl..unlike if the jets made it.

but anyway..Go Packers!
