Our weakness on offense and draft

So breaking down some aspects of the game

The the Jets did not play Man or Zone but a combination. The put there outside guys on Man. So deion and Tate were in man coverage. Deion got shutdown by revis. then they brought there safety down into the box and dropped the LB. playing a tight zone underneath. They shadowed one safety on tate side.

so you had 2 LB/3 DB or 1 LB/3 DB or 4 DB with 10-15 yrd of LOS pratically blanketing the wes/te routes shuting down the underneath routes

They targeted 2 players in particular
Danny woodhead - When he is pass protection they always at snaps changes the blitz or pressure making him read and pickit up. Similar to what clevland did.Faulk was a master at this.

tate - He was on ouside man and they even tryed wes but tate and tom never developed any rhythm during season and it showed. even in blow outs the OC need to say this is my thrid guy and i am going to call plays for him but the whole let brady read and distribute came to bite as he used to Wes and Deion but not tate.BY making him go to his 4th read it was like playing with a WR he is not used to.

So the way to beat this

1) Run the ball you have smaller guys so use your TE to set the edge and run between the tackles. We do it against the colts but we needed a Colts game plan. Run and Run till they are forced to bring more LB on the field as they had only 4 DL dressed for this game. When more LB come then go no huddle and use wes/te on them.

2)Outside WR have to develop some chemistry. Brady has to be given plays every game where tate/rookie wr/price have to be first/second reads.

Draft Some big uglies on defense

a good 3-4 end is going to help your OLB alot .Seymour sometimes drew double letting AD,vrabel or willie on a TE or RB. Right now tully , cunningham are rushing against tackles if we really need to improve pass rush get a bully like seymour. I loved his attitude. He was a bully on the DL who along with Vince created a favourable matchup for OLB to rush. Its not a conincidence that when Ty played his best year vrabel had 17 sacks. When you have a good 3-4 end you are helping your OLB alot.

The games are won in the trenches. We need atleast 3 new OL and 2 on the DL and an OLB that can rush the passer.

We also need to get rid of some coaches. BOB needs to go. We need to make Pepper Johnson the DC.

Its been 7 years since we have seen the Lombardi. The old standards on win one once in a while are gone. Kraft has a new stadium that needs to be paid plus Patriot Place. I imiagine that in the next week all you will see in Patriot Place is snow drifts.

There is no reason to go there now. There is no foot traffic at the stores. No one in the restaurants.

You will be able to hear a pin drop soon.

I agree on the OL and DL but as i said we need big 3-4ends badly. Every one still drool over Clay mattew but in greenbay he plays well against a DL whose job is to free him up.We do not play like that for some reason.

OL - I see 2 G/C in the draft and resign matt light. You do not want to have a brand new line . Light/vollmer/Kazur/Levour will be tackles .

I live 10 minutes from patriots place and i have no clue why you think it will be empty. It never is. that place is always pumping even on week days. Me and family head to dinner on weekdays as weekends are crazy.

Matt Light is an unrestricted free agent in 2011. Nick Kaczur will be returning from back surgery that he underwent in August. LeVoir needs to be replaced with a higher quality backup. Vollmer is the only viable offensive tackle on the roster under the age of 30.

Stephen Neal is injury prone and turns 35 years of age during the 2011 NFL season. Dan Connolly was abused in the 2010 AFC Divisional Playoffs. Dan Koppen can't be allowed to babysit for stiffs like Connolly and Wendell off the bench. The offensive line needs to be retooled during the 2011 NFL draft, starting with an offensive guard late in the first round or early in the second round, and an offensive tackle no later than the third round. Mike Pouncey from Florida should be available with either the #28 pick overall or the #33 pick overall in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Make no mistake, Tom Brady can't be allowed to take a physical beating like he did last Sunday during the course of a season.

Agreed !. I always believed protection is a combination of talent on WR and OL.When WR start having issue the OL looks bad.

Both need to be improved. one big WR on the outside with speed and a good right gaurd will be high need.

Vollmer i am on the fence post concussion he struggled last year and this year once his shin got injured he was struggling. I am hestiant in giving him promotion due to injures and struggles. LT needs to be durable and consitent in my book.I will pick a OT at 17 if we can get one. all the good ones go fast. It either a OT or DT at 17 or even trade up. OLB are all conversion projects anyway so 2nd is high enough.

The biggest weakness in this thread is the spelling in the title :o

Satz's analysis is usually spot on. Unlike some people here, he knows what he is talking about, so the spelling doesn't bother me.

Based upon first observation, there seem to be plenty of good offensive tackles in the 2011 NFL Draft that don't require a selection with the 17th pick overall.

If the Patriots re-sign Matt Light for at least one additional year while Nick Kaczur fully recovers from back surgery, the number one priority on the offensive line is to draft an offensive right guard. With the 33rd pick overall, Mike Pouncey from Florida could be available since Belichick has an affinity for Gators football players. A backup offensive guard in the fifth or sixth round would be a bonus since I've seen enough of Dan Connolly.

I guess the spelling is an offense to the offense?

Great analysis. Of course, if you run the ball well and they bring in linebackers, they are still stifling your WR with two cornerbacks. Nothing stopping them from bringing extra defensive backs in on other downs.

If you're running game is just wrecking them so they have to totally abandon playing the pass that's one thing, but I think Ryan would be fine with three yards and a cloud of dust while he tried to shorten the game on his side.

Many QBs would like to emulate Brady and go up by two or three touchdowns early too, but they don't have his talent and fail.

In my opinion, run or no, the Patriots need to be able to pass some and assuming Ryan is going to radically change his defense to stop our running game is quite an assumption.

By the way, I advocated just that in the giants SB, but that was a different game. They were waltzing in on the pass rush. The jets really weren't, they were clogging up our passing lanes and playing great man to man. They had lots of guys hanging around the middle of the field, not trying to blow by the line to the QB. Almost every sack was a coverage sack.
