I think Ellis Hobbs has great potential....He's still young and 2007 is proving to be a great season for him.

Pros: Good anticipation on defense / strong runner / catches the ball like a receiver / good tackler - he's got so many pros, it's hard to list them all. The interception in the Giants game was great.. He reads the QB really well.

Cons : Mmm... can we see some Hester like action in the Playoffs?
"Don't kick to Hobbs" would be a good one to have.... I hope he has a great kickoff or punt return in the playoffs.

I still think the 108 yard run in the season opener against the Jets was one of the most electrifying runs I've seen in football.

pros:

1.athletic

2.confident in his ability (he won't get down on himself)

3.makes clutch plays every once in a while (giants game)

cons:

1. always seems to be late, at least on my TV it looks like whenever a WR runs a curl or something similar, Hobbs is late, and makes contact with the receiver about a second after the ball is caught.

2. Has trouble with tall receivers, such as Burress (sp?)

3. Many pass interference calls, not all are justified, but he gets called for them a lot.

Overall I think he is fine as a #2 CB. What can you expect? Yes, we all wish for a CB tandem of Asante and Champ Baily, but that probably won't happen.

Re: What is your scouting report on Ellis Hobbs?

My only realistic beef with Hobbs is that he plays too far of the receiver on short third downs. He's ripe for the pickings for one of those quick drop lauches the Pats do.

I keep expecting teams to throw it, but they never do.

Other than that minor gripe, he's fine. He's a willing and able tackler. He gives up yards, but rarely gets burned. He has given up a couple of blown red-zone TDs, but he isn't 2002 Champ Bailey. He always seems to lose concentration for a few plays or a series but, as someone said before, he doesn't lack for confidence and recovers. Confidence is almost as important as skill at CB. His timing in breaking up plays could be better, but he also doesn't get faked easily on double moves or react too quickly (jump routes incorrectly).

Even before his 108er, I thought he was electric on returns, though he seems to be developing tunnel vision.

As a #2, he's more than anyone could ask for, really. To break down every major +/- individually, (as I see) it would take forever and would prolly bore people. To me, his main job is to not get burned deep. He rarely does.

i hope you were joking about that

Pros: Athletic, quick with great leaps, short memory (good thing)
Cons: poor tackler, gets pushed around by bigger WRs. Ball skills need work. Always a step off as he gives up too much cushion

Great potential with good build..short but strong. Needs to do a better job tackling and getting in position to finish plays

look, unless we know the gameplan, and specifically wut he is being asked to do....i cant say his pros and cons....

to me i think he gives recievers way too much room in front of him...however, if he is told he will never have safety help, and to make sure he just doesnt get beat deep....i dont blame him for the cushion....

other then his huge cushin, i dont know wut else to fault the guy on...the cushion is why hes had such a bad season this yr from wut i saw....

and sometimes bad position, as in the pass to plax in the second play of the giants game...bad position....i remember in the last AFCCG he tipped a ball away from a reggie wayne who if he had caught it, would have had a td...can he still do that?

i wonder....and i hope i wont have to find out

Could have said pretty much the same about Asante in 2005...except for the leaping. They play the coverage as they are coached to.

Re: What is your scouting report on Ellis Hobbs?

BB, Zara, and Remix pretty much hit the nail on the head for me. Minus the poor tackling.

One thing I would agree with is the kickoff returns. It seemed for awhile he fell in love with that spin move at first contract, which is fine once and again but not repeatedly. Since then it seems like he's been consistently in the 15-25 yard range. Maybe sometimes guys who break one early in the year get to thinking a bit too much.

As for his corner skills, I agree: he's about as good or more than what you could ask for out of a 2nd corner. He gets sha* on a little bit in the media, but I don't have a problem with him. I think it's realistic to think his peak will be slighly better than what is is now. How old is he? 24?
