Wilfork's eye poke

They were commenting about it on ESPN. Some announcers thought that Wilfork should be suspended for it. But it's obvious that the guy on the receiving end didn't actually get hurt, although he was annoyed. So will Wilfork get fined or suspended?

I don't think that he should miss a playoff game because of that incident. I will say that I think he DID go over the line, but the other guy wasn't even hurt. At most he should get a significant monetary fine, what do you think?

I don't think he should be suspended. I mean c'mon it took 3 horse collar tackles for Roy to be suspended. Give 'em his fine and warning... escalate the punishment from there.

I don't think the fact that the guy didn't get hurt should make a difference.

I really don't know. I hope the Commissioner will use discretion and take into account the magnitude of the next game.

But ultimately, I think the issue is one of precedent. What has happened for similar incidents in the past?

I don't think he would get suspended for a game in the playoffs that happened in the regular season... He will probably see a nice fine though... There were quite a bit of scuffles in this game, so I can only assume there was alot of "talking" going on by the teams...

Mort said that because there was no injury he was hearing it was very likely to be a fine not a suspension. I didn't think he tried to poke him in the eye, but the end result was closer to that that was planned. Regardless, Vince needs to be careful and with this commissioner we need to not be putting ourselves in the position of giving him the chance to screw us over.

I disagree, I think whether a player gets hurt or not should affect the severity of the punishment. For example remember the referee who blinded the offensive lineman for life by throwing a flag into his eye? I think the ref had a legitimate case against him because he caused an actual physical injury.

I think Wilfork just got caught up in the heat of the moment when he jammed his finger into the other guy's helmet. Yes he should be punished, but not as severely because the other player suffered no actual phsyical damage.

That's exactly what I'm worried about with Goodell. He seems to want to establish himself as a "hardass" commissioner. i hope he doesn't go overboard in his punishment, and takes the lack of actual harm into account with his sentencing.

He should get a $4500 fine and a golden Eff The Giants trophy signed by BB.

He should be fined alot imo. That was stupid and malicious on his part and embarrassing to the franchise. I'd be suprised to see a suspension but then again, Goodel is the commissioner.

The intent, to me, also was less than it appeared. I don't think he was trying to poke him in the eye but to point his finger like a parent saying "cut it out".
