Dom Capers - Is his knowledge of the Pats any help to The Pack?
 

Dom spent the majority of the 2008 season with the Pats helping coach up the secondary and part assistant coach.

How much knowledge can he bring to the Packers as DC to help with tendencies of the Pats on both sides of the ball?

I would think little since the team has many new players on defense and different schemes on offense with Moss gone and Brady back..Moss was on that years team and except for a few plays,Brady was not

well it goes both ways .But their D is the 1st in pass defense so that itself will be a challenge

Allow me to don my homer cape for a minute. Comparing the Pats offense to the best defense is like comparing the best Porterhouse steak to the best canned sausage.

Well, his knowledge of the Pats didn't do us much good when he was here (didn't everyone want him gone for failing to unleash the dogs [which haven't really been unleased since either]), so I doubt it's going to do the Pack much good.

Correct but to provide some context:

Trent "looking for a bench" Edwards
Shawn "coming off the bench" Hill
Donovan "on the bench behind Rex Grossman" McNabb
Chad "tried to bench him" Henne
Brett "mercifully on the bench now" Favre (x2)
Mark "would be benched if backup wasn't 40 yo" Sanchez
John "career bench-warmer" Kitna
Troy "should never leave the bench" Smith
Drew "amazed he is still allowed on a bench" Stanton

Amazingly, those are the QBs they've faced in 10 of their 13 games. Even more amazingly, they are only 7-3 in those games..with 6 of them at home.

What about the other 3 games?

Vick (not yet the starter): 16-24/175/1/0 (plus 100+ on the ground)
Cutler: 16-27/221/1/1
Ryan: 24-28/197/1/0

Avg for those 3: 71%, 198 yds, 3-1 TD/INT ratio

Not saying they are bad on pass defense. I'm just not sure their #1 ranking is as bright and shiny as it would appear.

3 starting DBs and 3 starting LBs weren't here when capers was here

I think Capers left because he wanted to do more with the D, but Dean Pees wouldn't allow it.

Good context, another thought is that our O and D is vastly different than last year..

He may offer some insight into Brady, but probably no more than can be picked up on film by a good coach..

FWIW Rodney was saying last night on NFLN that the Pack under Capers runs a zone blitz scheme similar to Pittsburgh's and basically Brady eats those for lunch. Unless they have the horses to play man and get after the receivers at the LOS to break up the rhythm of this offense their ranking isn't going to help them tonight...
