Which was the worse mistake: giving up Welker or Woodhead?

In one corner, the JEST gave up Woodhead for absolutely nothing to keep Joe McKnight.

In the other corner, the LOLphins only put a second-round tag on Welker, basically guaranteeing the Patriots would swoop in and take him off their hands (after all, Welker was basically guaranteed to be as useful as anyone the Patriots could have drafted with that second-rounder). Even better, the LOLphins used the pick on center Samson Satele, who they traded away for a 2009 6 and a swap of 2009 4s. :D

Which was worst for the Fins or Jets? Jets made a bigger mistake. They got nothing in return.

Which one benefit the Pats more? Welker

Welker by a landslide

In 5 years ask again. Right now Woodhead is a nice player, but he hasn't proven that he will continue to be. I'm not saying it won't happen, it just hasn't happened yet. OTOH year in and year out Wes is one of the best recievers in the league. The fact that Woody was free and Wes cost a second rounder is inconsequential.

All i know is when the Bills get a white skilled position player... History says we should grab him.

On the surface it may look like the Jets lost because they got nothing in return, but in reality the Jets win because the Dolphins went backwards.

The Dolphins got a second round pick and the priviledge of playing Welker twice a season. Since the Dolphins drafted a sorry center, they actually lost Welker and had to pay a stiff for years of next to nothing. Which means they are out Welker and cash! That is going backwards.

The Jets win because they only have to play againsat Woodhead twice a year, they didn;t lose anything else, except maybe their pride, intergrity and moral compass. (All of which the Jets can regain by sacking Ryan and rehiring Rich Kotite.)

But the Dolphins had an adequate replacement in Bess and the Jets only have LT. :D

Woodhead. Jets got nothing back for him and now he's a big time contributor to the Pats offense.
At least Miami got a 2nd and a 7th for Welker. He has far outperformed what they got in return but they got something.

How are those two bolded parts different points? Both teams play the Pats twice a year...
Also, didn't Woodhead go off for 100+ yards against the Jets?

Re: Which was the worse mistake: giving up Welker or Woodhead?

The Jets and Dolphins mistake was the same: neither knew how to get the best value out of the player.

Woodhead remaining a Jet and Welker remaining a Dolphin would have both been OK players, occasionally showing flashes of what could have been but basically rotting away. (Woodhead maybe not as much, he's younger and could have gotten a break as a starter through injuries and impressed, but the Jets are so overly influenced by "star power" that he'd never be what he has become here.)
