It had to happen

Animal rights groups angry at whales with Santa hats. More.... : Animal activists' anger after aquarium puts Santa hats on whales by RICHARD SHEARS - 18th December 2007 It's a scene that brings laughter and cheers from visitors to a Japanese aquarium - two white beluga whales wearing Santa hats. But environmentalists are saddened by the sight of what they say is the final humiliation for the whale in a country that hunts them down with harpoons. The beluga whales have been fitted out with the cute Santa hats to entertain the crowds at the Hakkeijima Sea Paradise on Yokohama Island. There's even a chance to receive a wet kiss under the mistletoe from a yuletide beluga. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1811 Guess the Japanese didn't get the memo. Or, they don't give a rat's behind. (Probably the latter. Arigato gozaimas!!) Eat more sushi!!! // |

Re: It had to happen
The Japanese celebrate Christmas as the top six inches of a ten-foot layer of cultural tradition that is a combination of bushido (samurai), Shinto (love of the motherland), and East Asian honor and respect for parents, teachers, and elders. Iow, Christmas is the latest cultural ethic to arrive on top of five thousand years of Far East tradition; they like the hats and candy-canes; the Christian ethic is fine, too, but Christianity itself represents a "foreign" Euro-American culture. They take what they like and leave what they don't. But there is no doubt the Japanese admire what America has done in a short 400 years.
