hopefully, the pats run game thread to end all pats run game threads
because everywhere I turn someone is *****ing about the pats run game, I have created this thread.
if you think belichick doesn't like to run the ball, or the pats suddenly forgot how to run the ball, you are bull****ting yourself. (note: I am not counting qb or wr runs in the following) game 1 (jets) 28 passes - 34 rushes maroney returns from injury I am not a mathematician, but I estimate that's more running than passing. game 2 - (sd ) 31 passes - 28 rushes maroney 5.1 ypc -- morris 5.1 ypc vs top ten run d I guess even now you can see them abandoning the run..... game 3 - (buf) 29 passes - 37 rushes does this game need a comment? game 4 - (cin) 32 passes - 26 rushes maroney out game 5 (cle) 38 passes - 30 rushes maroney out ---------------------------------------------------- sammy out vv game 6 (dal) 46 passes - 26 rushes sammy knocked out for season after 10 carries maroney still out meanwhile, rushing powerhouse dallas threw 29x and ran 14 game 7 (miami) 28 passes - 22 rushes maroney creeping back from injury w/6 carries game 8 (wash) 41 passes - 28 rushes through 8 games they have only one w/less than 26 carries, and that is last week when maroney only got 6 carries coming back from injury, while they have 3 of 8 w/30+ carries game 9 (indy) 32 passes - 23 rushes first half evenly split - second half got away from run while throwing to moss came back in 4th to beat a top offense while throwing to moss week 10 - (bye) 0 passes - 0 rushes exactly even split week 11 - (buf) 41 passes - 26 rushes maroney sits most of blowout having alleged foot injury looked at evans + eckel = 4.8 ypc and check this stretch: 2-4-NE 29 (10:24) 44-H.Evans right guard to NE 35 for 6 yards (55-A.Crowell). 1-10-NE 35 (9:47) 44-H.Evans up the middle to NE 41 for 6 yards (33-J.Greer). 2-4-NE 41 (9:06) 44-H.Evans right guard to NE 44 for 3 yards (55-A.Crowell; 56-K.Ellison). 3-1-NE 44 (8:25) 16-M.Cassel pass short left to 44-H.Evans to NE 48 for 4 yards (95-K.Williams). Play action pass, caught at NE 46. 1-10-NE 48 (7:43) 38-K.Eckel right guard to NE 49 for 1 yard (92-R.Denney). 2-9-NE 49 (7:01) 44-H.Evans up the middle to BUF 40 for 11 yards (52-J.DiGiorgio). 1-10-BUF 40 (6:15) (Shotgun) 16-M.Cassel pass short middle to 38-K.Eckel to BUF 34 for 6 yards (38-J.Butler; 55-A.Crowell). Caught at BUF 35. 2-4-BUF 34 (5:32) 38-K.Eckel left tackle to BUF 35 for -1 yards (92-R.Denney). 3-5-BUF 35 (4:46) 38-K.Eckel right guard to BUF 31 for 4 yards (55-A.Crowell) week 12 (philly) 54(!) passes - 13 rushes came out first half exclusively no huddle shotgun spreading wr's only rush of first half being 1 yd td run -- 12 carries in second half (plus another rushing td) also, scored 2 td's and 1 fg on only 3 possessions in first half w/this no huddle scheme week 13 (bal) 38 passes - 22 rushes 22 carries for 76 yds equals about 3.5 ypc I'm not sure how much running anyone expected here -- balt must be a top 2 run d, if not the best 3.5 ypc is probably one of the highest ypc they've given up now (Please be quiet - edited), plz |

Thank goodness you provided bye week stats for us.

I would also point out that the Pats are second in the NFL in rushing first downs and first in the NFL in percentage of running plays picking up a 1st down.
They are tied for third in rushing TDs. Eighth in rushing yards per game. I think most people think Indy has a pretty good running game with Joseph Addai. On almost exactly the same number of attempts (356 for the Pats/358 Colts), the Pats have more yards per carry and more yards per game. Faulk is averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Maroney is averaging 4.3 yards per carry. Statistically, the Pats are a very good and very efficient running team. |

Christ! How can we expect this team to win the Super Bowl if they go a whole week without even attempting to run the ball?
They don't practice the running game enough, and it shows. Especially when you have zero attempts for the whole damn week. |
