BB should have tried to coffin corner the final kickoff

I believe according to NFL rules if the kicking team kicks out of bounds, the opposing team can either:

a) Accept from spot of where ball goes out of bounds; or

b) Accept the ball 30 yards from the spot of the kick.

In this case, 30 yards from the spot of the kick is the FIVE YARD LINE.

The ballsy I'm-smarter-than-you-jerkoff call would have been to have Gost try to squib one out inside the 10.

Not a bad ideer. I think they just wanted to avoid any return whatsoever, though. Can't blame them.

I think BB just thought there was a much better chance of them getting into FG range on some freaky return rather than Boller with 44 seconds and 1 TO.

definitely putting an asterick next to Ghost's touchback count this year.

Agreed. It would have been pretty ballsy, and maybe something you'd only try if you had a real Elway-type back there that you actually feared.

i as well was thinking of somthing like this, maybe squib it or somthin, or just loft it up and try and get it at the one, and let your guys (running a much shorter field) try and stuff em inside the 10
but the safest play was just kicking it through the endzone, can't really argue with the call

I was thinking this too, but not a squib. He could have just booted it in the air and hoped it went out close to the goal line. No risk at all really, worst case scenario it makes it into the endzone and the Ravens end up with it at the 20, which is what happened anyway.

Why not just onsides it? If you don't convert, they get the ball at approximately the 20 plus you have a 20-25% chance of icing the game. If you kick it thru the endzone, they have it at the same yard marker and you forfeit your 20% chance of ending it.

I was actually wanting them to go for the onside kick. They would have never seen it coming. But I guess it would be risky.

They should have onsides-kicked it, or squibbed it, or just popped it in the air; anything but a touchback kick through the end zone, which took exactly ZERO seconds off the clock.

Inexcusably stupid.

I have a feeling that the mark-off on an out-of-bounds KO may not have been the 5-yard-line. But that's a very interesting thought. I wonder what the actual result might have been.
