Pees comments on Pierre Woods

"We're going to need to try to find somebody that we can rotate in there now," said Pees. "That's always good for the front seven to be able to rotate guys in, if you have them."

The most-appealing option may be second-year outside linebacker Pierre Woods. The undrafted free agent out of Michigan showed marked improvement during the preseason, finishing with 17 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. Woods has been credited with just two defensive tackles this season, but he is the Patriots' leader in special teams stops with 14.

"He's a guy that has been a legitimate backup and he's a guy that we are hoping that we can get in the mix," Pees said. "He's done a great job on special teams for Brad [Seely]. He's working hard and he's getting better all the time. We're hoping that he just keeps progressing like that and, if he does, then he's certainly going to give us some depth where we need it."
On Chad Brown:

A less-likely option would be veteran linebacker Chad Brown, who re-signed Tuesday after being out of football. Brown, who played inside and outside for New England in 2005, played in one game for the Patriots this season prior to being released, and was with the team in training camp.

Pees said he was happy to have Brown, but that it would be unfair to ask him to step into the breach after just two days of practice.

In the end I doubt there will be one guy who starts to replace Colvin but Woods, Bruschi and Seau should all see a little more time with AD still moving around but being seen more on the outside. Hopefully Woods can flash a little at OLB - it would seem like the weak side (Colvin's side) would be a little easier although I thought he'd been seen more on Vrabel's side.

Now, now.... you're not thinking deviously enough. There's a reason that Colvin conveniently got injured just as the team needed a spot to bring a player back from PUP:

Troy Brown, pass-rushing linebacker!

The same article suggests the safeties are at full strength.

I was about to say that suggests we might see more big nickel and so on, but then I remembered that the Ravens don't do much except run.

Big nickel might be a better fit for the Steelers. To stop them you have to limit Ward and Parker, plus you have to get to Ben R since he's playing well again.

That would make a nice epithet on his grave stone.
