Can we simmer the "Favre deserves the MVP more than Brady" talk

There has been a slowly growing argument around the league (at least the media) on whether Favre deserves the MVP award more than Brady because he is "having his best year with no talent around him". I don't know. Based on what I saw tonight, that offensive talent around Favre isn't nearly as bad as they make it seem. In fact, you can make the argument that without a few questionable calls that the Packers could have won this game with Aaron Rogers at QB. And the Cowboys are arguably the second best team in the league.

I don't want to take anything away from Favre. He is a great player who is having a great year, but Brady is the MVP.

Good lord Favre was bad today.

5 for 14, 2 INT's...

Favre was not playing well prior to his injury, and the receivers on that team are very good. I agree with your point and expect this talk to now shift to Romo as an MVP candidate. He did throw 4 TDs tonight. I'm not saying he should get it, but he'll now be considered more seriously as one of the candidates.

Favre is in the running for comeback player of the year if you count suckitude as something you can come back from.

Rogers proved tonight that what Brett is doing - running McCarthy's offense instead of making the rest of the team fly by the seat of it's pants to suit a gunslingers personality and mindset - is not that unique and special. He's just been doing the job for a change instead of having fun. And for $10M per he should have been doing that all along.

Of course tonight Brett was also in the hunt for an Emmy. Notice how he sprinted to the locker room once he knew Dallas could kneel out the clock. He was only hanging for the Hail Mary save.

He will and should definitely get some votes.

Second and Third place votes.

If playing well without a talented supporting cast around you is the criterion for MVP, surely Tom Brady should have four or five of these thisngs to his name already?

This just in Farve has had a bowel movement , Adam Schefter was there he will have this report.... I love Farve but come on media heads, you showed Farve's reaction more than who was playing in the game... The Farve love was over the top in this game, and again I have to defend GULP , Chris Collingstworth, who says the Packers were moving the ball better than with Lord Farve..

You know just because our guy is the top guy doesn't mean that you ignore everybody else in the league. I don't know where you guys get this idea that it's an insult to talk about other teams or other guys. It would be different if the talk was actually at the serious threat level that your Title indicates, but you know it's not. It's not even close to that, and you know it.

Excluding severe homer talk out of GB, the talk has all been about making sure that we include a great player who's having a great year, but that's about it. Most analysts (until last night) wanted to include him in the talk, and probably give him a solid vote for second place. How the hell do you expect to avoid something so innocuous?

All players having a great year should be in the discussion, not just the eventual winner. This is the NFL, not the PFL.

Aparently, you haven't been watching much national TV or listening to national radio. There has been a wave of Favre deserves the MVP more than Brady ground swell going on. Even Peter King floated the notion around on that in his MMQB. Of course Favre deserves to be in the mix for MVP, but right now there is no one more deserving than Brady and not even close. Just like when people said the same thing about Manning in 2004, Alexander in 2005, and LT last year when they all had record breaking years. There is nothing homerish about it.

You could have made the argument that Brady was more important to the Pats last year than LT was to the Chargers, but LT broke the TD record and few thought Brady really was in strong contention for the MVP title. Brady is on pace to potentially break the TD, yards, completion percentage, and QB rating record this year. No one else should be in serious contention for the title.

It isn't being a homer. It is knowing how these things work. Favre should get the ole "In any other year he would be a strong contender for MVP, but this year it is Brady's title" and be done with it. No one other than Brady should be seriously considered for MVP. End of story.

I do listen to Mike and Mike, Troy Aikman, Arnie Spanier, and watch, in pieces, all of the Sunday shows. I haven't heard one serious argument for Favre over Brady yet. Nobody is going out on that limb that I've heard.

Well, you hedge your bet now with the word "seriously", which back tracks you to where I came into this thread. "Making an argument for" another guy is not to be taken to seriously challenge the top guy. It's meant to add something to the discussion, to provide counterpoint, and to give some credit to somebody else. I've heard the tone and the intent of the phrase "making an argument for Favre" many times recently, and it's always given in an overall context that Brady is going to be the man, but let's not overlook performances that can break into the outer level of Brady.

Maybe you just don't like it. I don't mind it. I minded Brady not getting it in 2001 and 2003, and frankly am not threatened by that happening this time, nor am I threatened by Favre talk one little bit. Not even a teetsy. Not even a shred. No jealousy, no threat, I actually like the counterpoint and dwelling on somebody else's performance for a moment or two.
