Americans Should Work to Abolish Primary Elections
The more I study the current political landscape the more convinced I am that one almost immediate way to change things would be to abolish primary elections.
Abolishing primary elections would: 1: Save local and state money funding elections. 2: Would open the door to more independents and/or less financed candidates. 3; Would take some clout away from powerful PAC's who use the threat of primary candidates to persuade officials to vote their way. 4: Would temporarily fracture the 2 main parties who cannot use the September 11 to November 4th period to heal the party. Just a few ideas here ... with all the Tea party hoopla that may not change anything I think the fastest way to change is to open up the election process to more average Americans who simply don't have the means to properly finance a campaign which is what makes the parties so strong. We could do this ... from grass roots on up by forcing a vote similar to gay marriage and tax questions ... we absolutely could do this and should do this. |
