As far as personality, '85 Bears blow away Patriots

Unfortunately, Super Bowl trophies aren't awarded for charisma. Awesome quote by Bears LB Otis Wilson.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2...8&sportCat=nfl

Quote:

In another memorable quote, this time from 1986, Wilson said of Green Bay's Charles Martin after a dirty hit on McMahon: "I'd like to go get my magnum and blow his ass away." It's that kind of transparent honesty that is missing in pro sports today. Wilson, however, has polished his rough edges and now runs a successful foundation in Chicago that provides health, nutrition and fitness programs for Chicago's inner-city schools.
FINAL TALLY: The Bears win seven charisma categories and split the eighth, in a horribly biased study. Perhaps I should try politics.

Fortunately in real life this is a FOOTBALL contest and not a personality contest.

That kind of openness is missing from society in general, but it's not hard to see why. Spygate is a good example of the media overblowing something to harmful proportion. Recent examples are the whole Cedric Maxwell/Larry Bird exchange and, well, the entire celebrity watching culture in general.

Many deride Belichick and the Patriots for their closed door approach, but in today's overcovered, overexaggerated, and overhyped media era, it is the only sane and viable long-term approach.

Only in the author's twisted mind. Because they played for the legendary franchise in NFL history, the press was disposed to portray them as charismatic instead of arrogant prick @$$holes.

Would we be more charasmatic if Brady mooned a camera during pre-game warm-ups?

Given what's going on with random violence involving some from the NFL (see Sean Taylor, Pacman Jones, Darrent Williams, Ray Lewis, etc.), I find the use of this quote quite revealing. It's not transparent honesty that's missing, it's that these guys today are acting on this "honesty," and the fact that Kluck actually appreciates this "honesty" is obviously part of the problem. The term "idiot" only starts to describe this scribe.

Compare what's going on with charity involvement from Wilfork, Warren, and other members of the team. The only time they want attention is when they'd like others to pitch in and help. Yes, I'll take the Patriot way over all those horses arses from the '85 Bears. They had a real dynasty back in the 80s, didn't they? McMahon compared to Brady? Please.

Not to get away from the rather superserious trend developing in the thread already, but...

Considering the giant potential humor in that column, Kluck came up considerably short--dwarflike, even. Did the aptly named Mr. Kluck chicken out? Or was it sheer laziness that prompted him to submit a column that was about as trite as a "that's what she said" joke? Can he even name eight Patriots?

I enjoyed watching that Bears team--until the Super Bowl, of course. Perhaps I can submit my own version of the column, and get myself a writin' job.

The Pats really need to go into the studio and record "Super Bowl Shuuffle '07".

That should shut up the critics.
