Met Jimmie Vaughan last night...
... what a gentleman.
He's been a musical hero of mine for a long time - and I rarely use that term. He was in town last night for a gig at a local venue, but I couldn't go as I had a gig myself. Well, he had a gig, and I plodded through some tunes in a cool restaurant is closer to the truth. Anyway, he made an appearance at a fine local music store called Buckdancer's Choice in Portland, Maine. You can find them at Buckdancers Choice Music Company - - I am not affiliated with them in any way, but if they're gonna bring this type of artists to town, I am more than happy to give 'em a plug. Plus, I shop there, so I don't feel like a turd mouth for doing it. Anyway, Jimmie showed up, right on time. He could not have been more simple, welcoming, gracious. He was all smiles, very talkative, just a great all-around guy. He signed the headstock of my Tom Anderson - not even a Fender or a Gretsch :) - and then offered me a signed poster, too. http://mojocaster.com/photos/jimmie/mojojimmie.jpg One of the people there had a Jimmie Vaughan Gretsch sig guitar. He had Jimmie sign it, then proceeded to explain to Jimmie what mods he did to it. Jimmie was very interested, grabbed the guitar, played some very cool licks. http://mojocaster.com/photos/jimmie/jimmie3.jpg It was a thrill to meet someone so talented, so experienced, yet so down-to-earth and approachable. Some celebrities disappoint, Jimmie Vaughan didn't. |
