TO's Post-Game Speech
 

I have watched several post-game speeches by Tyrrell Owens to his Cowboys teammates. It appears that Wade Phillips gives his post-game coach speech which is pretty standard in the NFL. But for some reason, it seems he turns it over to TO to let him "say a few words".

One really sickening episode was listening to TO thank his teammates for letting him have a good game against his former team, the Philadelphia Eagles. He told them all how important it was "TO HIM"!!!

Wow!

Do his mates actually care what is important to him? How can his own teammates stomach this BS? I'm certain that none of them cared about how important it was for TO.

But once again, last night I witnessed Phillips turning his post-game speech over to TO. After all his BS last year, isn't there someone else the Cowboys look to as a leader? If not, that is a pretty poor situation over there in CowboyLand.

Do anyone have any insight into this?

Great athletes sometimes march to the beat of a different drummer. Part of being a coach is knowing how to handle free spirits, and whatever Philips is doing seems to be working; TO has never played better. He is awesome between the lines, and that's all that matters for the Cowboys and their fans.

I agree to a point, but TO's personality is not that of a humble leader. He still acts and makes comments that are self-serving....AND, he wears sunglasses to the media post-game interviews.

I guess my opinion is that I doubt his teammates really look up to him as their leader. Of course i don't know that and my opinion is based off the things I hear him say and the things I've seen him do...i.e. "Get your popcorn ready";)

He has done a pretty good job so far imo. He's been saying most of the right things after the game. A welcome change for a career jerkoff. However his inability to concede we played a better game or "the other 81" thing was pretty childish imo. Not very gracious in his 1 loss.

TO is so fake it makes me gag every time I see him. He's playing the "all about the team," game, but he's so full of **** it's pathetic. It's easy to tell too, because he ALWAYS has slip ups that let you know he's still a selfish SOB.

And the sunglasses on the national post-game interview thing just makes you wanna puke. Seriously, can anyone give one good reason why someone wears sunglansses AT NIGHT and INDOORS to an interview? I swear he thinks he's some sort of hollywood star or equivelant....NOT!

Agreed. I remember watching him say something like "it's not about me anymore it's about the team." I just wanted to throw up. This guy is ridiculous. All of this stuff about him turning into a leader is BS.

After the Eagles game, why couldn't he just say something like "Nice win guys, but it's in the past let's focus on [team name here]"

My biggest issue with his "team-first" attitude this year is that it is dependent on him being the focal point of the offense and him getting a chance to strut and preen on the field.

Check out his tone after the Skins game (4 TDs)..."I'm playing out of my head" and "People want to put me in the Hall of Fame now".

After the Jets game (only 1 TD in garbage time)...very subdued "We made history, but we won't stop there."

If TO starts seeing the ball less due to attention from the defense, he will start to stew on the sidelines (even if Dallas wins). If the team struggles in a game where he isn't used extensively, he will start to bark (has already happened). If the team loses in the playoffs and he doesn't get 8+ catches and a couple of TDs, he will start to turn on Romo and the coaches.

Everyone knows this, including the Cowboys. He has the mind of a child and everyone around him act as enablers. That will be fine this year since Romo is still finding his place in the organization and the coach is still in the Parcell's "afterglow". Next year, Romo and his long-term deal won't tolerate TO showing him up on national TV. Phillips will need to push the team to improve or risk turning into the 2008 version of the 2007 Chargers. How will TO respond to being pushed? If history is any indicator, not well.

Once the TO meltdown starts, it is impossible to stop. The only thing that can save the Cowboys is to win the championship with TO playing a big role in the Super Bowl. That will give him plenty of outlets for his attention-starved personality. If the Cowboy's season doesn't end this way, TO will have dark thoughts in his head and lots of microphones in his face. Nothing good can come of that.

My insight is that posters here don't like TO and the Cowboys. TO has been awesome this year and has been a (the?) team leader since Parcells left. The Cowboys don't have a coach who has a personal fued with the media and with the league. The coach allows their team leader (and other players) speak, and just BTW, our team leader also routinely comes to microphone. And to some, sunglasses are less distracting than yankee caps and models.

We love our team; cowboy fans and half the world loves theirs.
