90% of this game is half mental

Belichick on aging in the NFL (Herald):

“Like a baseball player, a guy might not be faster at 33, than he was at 23, but he might be a better base-stealer because he can get a better jump on the pitcher,” Belichick said. “He has a better sense of when to run, all those kind of things. In football, experience, anticipation, knowing what to do can make up for a lot of things.”

***
This reminds me that the plays where the lack of speed might hurt the Pats would be broken plays. Those are the plays where you don't necessarily get into position in advance. There's less chance to anticipate what comes next.

Another type of play that would be hard for our guys would be the recovery-from-pursuit after the QB dumps the ball off when everybody's in his face and out of position.

But that's why Casey said that only 90% of the game was half mental. If it was all mental it would be chess. Still, there is a lot of chess in the NFL. To me that's like one of the best parts. I have to tell you, Dungy plays tough chess. If anybody can give Bill a run for his money it's him. I think Dick Jauron plays a good game of chess too (speaking of Sunday.)

Quote "The Patriots Defense is too old. They could not stop Manning in the 1st half, and it will be the same story in the 2nd half. Patriots needs to add younger players to their Defense"

Care to guess who is this genius ?????

Shannon "I'm not too" Sharpe. Pats vs Colts, 2007. Halftime show. Needless to say Shannon"Daugherty" Sharpe has an IQ of a horse, just like his face.

Well, you do have to make the physical exertion of moving the desired piece to the desired square.:D

But how about golf? I think that game is 100% mental, with the rest being physical!:D :D

You sure that was the Case, and not Yogi? You could be (indeed, probably are) correct, I just want to be sure...

If 90% of the game is half mental, would'nt that make the game 45% mental?

I played alot of competetive golf. Golf is about 60% mental and 40% physical. You still have to perfect the mechanics of the golf swing. I knew Jim Colclough before he passed away and he was an avid golfer. He was mediocre striking the ball, but around the greens he was unbelievable. He had hands as soft as a down pillow...

Not unless you're stupid, and then it's probably more like 55%.

It was Yogi Berra, as famous for his malapropisms as for his baseball, who once said, "90% of the game is 50% mental."
