A Bill We Can All Agree On?
The appropriately titled Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) calls for the FCC to draft new regulations which would guarantee that televised commercials can't be obscenely loud, or broadcast at a volume that exceeds the decibel level of the program it interrupts. The bill, which was originally proposed by California Democratic Rep. Anna Eshoo in 2009, had already passed the House of Representatives before receiving the Senate's blessings. Now, it must return to the House for a final vote, before heading to the White House for President Obama's signature. Senate Approves Bill to Limit Volume of TV Commercials |

Re: A Bill We Can All Agree On?
It's pretty moronic, isn't it. You set your volume to the level your comfortable with.......then, a commercial comes on with some guy screaming at a higher decibel then what you programed. Kind of like those obnoxious phone calls that you do not want, or the junk mail that goes directly in the trash.

Re: A Bill We Can All Agree On?
Funny, I was reading a tech website forums and people there (not all, but many) were furious (how do people get furious over politics?) that government was "wasting time on stupid things". It's like Americans have become so used to politicians doing nothing for quality of life that when it happens (not really all that much here) people are totally disoriented.
I don't really watch a lot of TV and I hate commercials - all of them - but it's a decent bill if it is actually effective and deals with compression effects. Those are techniques use to make commercials seem louder without actually making them so. |

:agree:
Which politician do I have to bribe to make this happen? |

Brought to you by Rhode Island's Sheldon Whitehouse.
I guess Sheldon watches a lot of TV. In other news what will wake me up when I nod off. |
Re: A Bill We Can All Agree On?
I started muting commercials ever since I realized how horrible Old Navy commercials were in 2002. It became a habit with all commercials, so it doesn't affect me much. Kudos to the lawmakers for doing something most of us like for change (though my libertarian side says it shouldn't be any of their business ).

Re: A Bill We Can All Agree On?
I mute all commercials.
I mute Obama I have another gripe, why do these stupid local News Anchors always laugh and joke when they introduce the sappy weather man, example "hi Joe, whats it going to do today, shall we get the snow shovels out" tee hee, ha ha ha, haw haw haw. Another one When the weather man is all through jumping around and pi$sing his pants over some clouds passing over Chicago the goofy grinning News person thanks him, what the hell are they thanking him for, after a dip ***** weather man tells us that a Blizzard of Historic Proportions is coming and it might kill ten thousand people the Grinning News Person starts laughing and yelling about snowshoes then he "thanks him again" GOD DAMN AMERICA (Obama spiritual advisor) |
Re: A Bill We Can All Agree On?
I never watch anything but sports live. Everything else I DVR and fast forward through the commercials anyway!
