South Boston Local Knowledge

I'm coming out for the Colts game just before Thanksgiving and will be with family. We're looking at staying at a vacation rental in South Boston near Broadway and Dorchester.

I have no idea if it's true anymore but I've heard that South Boston can be a rough area. Should I be concerned about staying in this area?
