Seems like a pretty well crafted deal for both sides.

I don't get what "guaranteed for injury and cap" means for next year's base salary.

The increased base salaries in the last two years could mean this is a contract they'll re-evaluate when it gets to that point. He's a bargain between now and then.

$50M over the first three. Another $19.5M this year on top of the $6.5M he was scheduled to or already received.

You can guarantee for lots of things. Most common are loss of skill or injury. I think cap means you cannot cut him to effect a cap savings...someone else would have to go...;)

Too bad, I was hoping we could cut Brady. I read an article on Sunday about how the Jest had a young, up-and-coming, QB.

Off the top of my head, his cap hit this season will be up by $7.5M. Thereafter it will be his salary plus roster bonus plus $4M of his remaining amortized signing bonus. If you extend him in a restructure once the new CBA is in place, you can start converting some of those roster bonuses (should be able to with the first one anyway) into signing bonuses to spread the hit. Right now you can only amortize for 4 years, a new CBA should put that back to 6 or length remaining on a deal.

Do we know yet how signing bonuses will work on the cap if and when a cap is reinstated? Will that $16 mill be amortized over the cap as it would've been before?

EDIT: I see Mo answers the Q before I even posted it. ^^^^

Only because they (league, owners) said up front they would continue to treat money the same way for accounting purposes in anticipation of the cap returning. This season there is no cap, but teams will still amortize signing bonus automatically. The limit however is for 4 years per the expiring CBA. Usually it's 6, last year it was 5 in anticipation of the uncapped year.
