Wade Phillips' dad was an NFL coach named Bum Phillips

Anyone else see/hear that on TV?
That is all you need to know about what kind of a coach Wade Phillips is.

Bum was HC of the great Earl Campbell teams of the late '70s in Houston. He was a good guy, had a great sense of humor and a folksy way about him. His odd nickname added to his colorful persona.

He was a great coach that got a lot out of very little talent and was very quotable.

:yeahthat: ... I was an Oiler fan because i was a huge Earl Campbell fan ... after the Patriots of course. Bum got alot out of that team ... remember Billy "White Shoes" Johnson ... a great player back then.

Didn't need to see it on tv. Already knew it.

Great analysis though, using a nickname of a legendary football coach to hate on his son.

Is this guy in his 90's or does Wade Philips just look older than he is? When they showed that guy I was reminded of the "Mandelbaums" on Seinfeld.

"You think you're better than me?"

"You think you're better than HIM?" :rocker:

Yes. Pepper Johnson played linebacker for Bill Belichick when BB was a defensive coordinator for the Giants, then coach of the Browns. This was in the 80's and 90's. In the National Football League. In New York and Cleveland.

Your age is really showing here. Don't embarrass Patriots fans any further.

Bum Phillips was a great head coach. Nothing bad to say about him. Do your homework.
